You have to be EFFING KIDDING ME!

Yesterday morning as I was getting ready to leave for the dog show, I refilled the dogs' water bowl and added some ice cubes to keep it fresher.  I noted at the time that the outside of the ice cubes seemed wet, but they weren't melted together, so I just shrugged it off.

We went to the dog show and had a lovely day, and I came home and opened the freezer.  Everything in it had melted.  The ice cube bin was full of water.

I called LG's service department and they are sending a repair person on Tuesday.  I am just freaking LIVID. This fridge is a month old and already had a meltdown?  I hear the motor running, but is making a faint, single, tinny ticking sound at irregular intervals, and I suspect that is some sort of switch trying - and failing - to turn on.

So I will be throwing out melted food AGAIN, and taking what I can salvage to my daughter's later.  This meltdown is even worse than the old fridge's issues - things aren't half-melted, they are ruined.   Now it remains to be seen whether it can be repaired in one visit on Tuesday, or am I going through another round of refrigerator drama around Christmas THIS year too.

My eyes are twitching.  I am not kidding.

    Un-freaking-believable.

I took videos with my camera of my defrosting problem, so when the tech got here I could replay them for him- because of course, the refrigerator was behaving perfectly when he showed up. I had a nice capture of the sound- he said he knew exactly what the problem was, and has ordered the parts.

Might be a good idea to try for you, too, although I would be demanding new fridge if it's less than a month old.

Although, you might just want to sign up for ice block delivery and use your fridge as an old fashioned cooler at the rate you are going.

  2. I made a major rescue run to my daughter's house with the fresh produce and condiments. There are two refrigerators there, both over 16 years old, both work fine. I'm in hurricane mode here, but thankfully with electricity. I have two coolers in the hall bathroom (the easier to drain the melted ice water, my dear) holding Diet Coke, etc., and I'll be eating whatever I can pick up in a single serving until the tech comes and goes. And yes, if it isn't fixed on Tuesday, I will be raising an unholy hell. It's ONE MONTH OLD, and I'm storing food in a 16 year old cheap fridge in my daughter's garage!
