Oh shit.

TD 14 is now Milton, and it's projected to hit us early Wednesday morning as at least a Category 2. I've been through a few Cat 1 storms and they were bad enough, thanks, we really, really, REALLY don't need this.

Lots of people along the coast are still trying to recover from Helene, the barrier islands were heavily damaged this could finish them off. Central Florida barely got some rain and wind from Helene, but THIS is going to be an entirely different experience.

We'll be as ready as we can be.

  1. We were reading about this, all the best! The gulf water is so hot these storms really blow up fast. I really feel sorry for everyone that was in the path of Helene that is tragic.

  2. We need to quit talking about climate change as a thing that might happen in the future. It's here, and we need to figure out how to live.

Agree, Catherine. I saw this disturbance yesterday, and then wake up this morning and it’s already a named storm, with a weird path. Unfortunately you are pretty much in its bullseye. I will be sending the best of luck, I just hope the infrastructure there can take it.

I'm hoping it misses you but right now I'm reading it will likely make landfall as a cat 5. I've lived that and it's beyond ugly. You're a pro at this, I know. just triple whatever you're doing, mmmk? The aftermath of Andrew was very long and FEMA hasn't learned a damned thing in the intervening years so far as I can tell. Nor has the Red Cross. Crossing fingers for you all. Caroline Gaudy

I am hoping they're right and it'll weaken to a 3 before landfall, but it's still going to be a helluva mess.

How well do the smaller people in your house handle this? Sense enough to not want to go for walks in bad weather, at least. We'll be thinking of you -

It's already raining here but Eddie was determined to go for his morning walk. The rain got heavier after a couple of minutes and he dragged me home and BARKED AT ME to open the door RIGHT NOW!!
