Sophie is home from Day One of what will be a three day treatment of her Expensive Little Butt. (Oh, and she also has a yeast infection which is trying to rot her toenails.) I took her to the vet this morning and ended up leaving her there, so she could be sedated and her little butt lanced and cleaned. The Dr. looked her over and spotted discoloration of her toenails - you know, I thought her nails looked slightly darker to me in the last month or so, but it didn't seem to be bothering her at all. He showed me a crud developing along the nail bed, and said it was a yeast infection, which, if left unchecked, could seriously damage the nail beds and mess up her little feet for good. He has no clue what caused it - might be a dietary allergy, might be systemic, but she's on a med for it, and we'll revisit in a month. I am researching dietary changes/natural things to do to support her system - so far, a spoonful of quality yogurt seem like a good place to start. And I LOVE the suggestion of adding green beans to her food - both she and Murphy LOVE green beans, and that's a no-brainer addition to their usual menu.
She's snoring on the back of her chair (the furniture is protected by towels and such, because her little butt was slightly oozy when she first came home). She ate a light dinner and took her medicines, and is now sleeping off the experience, which will be repeated on Monday, and then on Thursday. Then 30 and 60 days out, I will have to bring her in for an anal gland squeeze and toenail fungus check.
So far, the bill for this adventure is sitting at $440. That just covers us through the rest of next week - the 30 and 60 day out charges are TBD. I like the staff there, and jokingly told them that I need to sell a lot of houses to make sure Sophie gets the medical care she needs. The receptionist immediately shouted out to the rest of the office, "Know anybody looking for a house?" and I handed her a few cards - we made a joke of it, but you never know.
Oh, and in a random moment of knitterly connections, someone I had chatted with for years on Knitter's Review left me a private message there weeks ago. I finally saw it the other day, and we are going to do lunch on Tuesday. Turns out she lives basically across Hendersonville Road from me, and I had no idea she was there, and she didn't know I was here, and.... So, lunch should be fun.
Poor Sophie, hope you caught this early enough it isn't as awful as the last time. Hope some good stuff shakes loose soon on the selling front.

It was caught early, and I am confident that good stuff is coming my way. Of course, one million dollar mountaintop estate could fix this situation for the next YEAR, so plz vizuleyze peeples with bucks looking for pretty houses. Thx.

Poor Sophie. Glad you caught it early. My sisters dog got yeast infections in the ears, she was allergic to wheat. Turned out too many milk bones were the culprit. Hope it's something simple for Soph too.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it may be - but that would mean $$$ for allergy testing. :-) I am rapidly earning a parking space at this vet's office too, but I'm not getting a regular paycheck to offset it.
