Friday. Oh, what a lovely word. It rolls off the tongue...Friiiidaaaayyyy. Saturday is going to be Me Day. I am going to run errands and color my hair and (whoo-hoo) do my nails. And watch movies and knit a lot. But not while my nails are drying.
Tonight I'm going to soak in my favorite bubble bath and try to wash away the stress of the week. We had a minor career scare this week, when rumors swirled that someone on the other side of the country was going to eliminate the functions that the Boss and I do. He heard it through the grapevine and didn't tell me this right away, but he was very quiet and not himself for a couple of days, so I finally asked him what was going on, and he told me, and then two of us were very quiet and not ourselves. But I'd rather know than not know, you know? Anyway, to make a long corporate saga short, the rumor was, as they so often are, a distortion and overstatement of what was going on, and all is well, they love us and we are as secure as anyone ever is in corporate America, but that'll have to do. I can get my kitchen cabinets with a clear conscience.
Today I was a bystander during an ignorant and silly anti-Catholic rant. The rant itself didn't bother me much, it was theological gibberish and delivered by someone I had already concluded is an idiot. I was raised to not make scenes and this was neither the time nor place for a theological discussion and it wasn't directed at me, so I just let it go. The fact that the rant happened at all did make me pause and think, though. I tried to imagine even this horse's ass ranting about "the Jews" or "black people" or insert group here - even this induhvidual would know that this Simply Isn't Done Now, at least not in public by civilized people, and the well-mannered bigot keeps these comments in the privacy of one's home. But it was about Catholics, and "everybody knows" the incredibly stupid "facts" being shared are "TRUE," so it's okay. Sometimes I think we need to be more assertive and go the anti-defamation route too, but it sort of goes against that whole "Turn the other cheek" thing that somebody - who was that guy? - told us to do. Oh well.
I've been contemplating throw pillows with fabric backs, and I think a diagonal garter stitch Cotton-ease pillow top will be started this evening. I need color - that pale minty green Lo-Tech Sweat is pretty but so very green. I want bright stripes with a bright floral on the other side, and since tomorrow is Me Day and I'm going out to wander, I think JoAnn's should yield something suitable for the backing fabric. And it is going to be warm and sunny and gorgeous all weekend, so I promise I will take some photos, because a blog without pictures...sucks.
