The weekend, however, was fun, with tons of Miss D time. Not tons of Miss D pictures, because we were Busy. Story time at the library and lunch with her mom on Saturday. Her mom knows her daughter; with mom there, Delaney hung back from participation and sat on her lap. I think story time should be a Grandma and Delaney activity; she's more inclined to participate when she isn't worried that one of those other kids will steal her mommy while her back is turned doing the limbo. (She obviously isn't too concerned that anyone will steal her Grandma.) She didn't want to join the other kids and limbo, then had a mild fit when it ended before she was ready to do it. I think next weekend she will remember this and not want to miss out.
This week one of the three books was one she has at home: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
This week's craft was super cute - they made a sheep with construction paper, clothes pins, and cotton balls, and yes, I'm a terrible grandma and worse blogger for not getting a picture of it before they took it home. Delaney very carefully dipped cotton balls in glue and placed them on the body to make her sheep fluffy, and mom helped with the googly eyes on the black construction paper face. And when story time was over, She Who Threw the Mother of All Screaming Shit Fits over a hand stamp at the dog show in December happily extended each hand for TWO stamps, and said thank you to the lady doing the stamping. The maturity difference between mid-December and early April is astounding - she's growing up so very fast.
Today her mom escaped for brunch with friends to celebrate passing the first of her board exams, and I had Miss D for half the day. We colored, played with play-doh, did puzzles, read books Olivia
Olivia was familiar to her from TV, and she "read" it to me with great pleasure. I was pleased that she also liked Twinkle, Twinkle - this is one of the prettiest books I've seen in a while, with lovely illustrations around the simple, familiar story. She recited it with me, and enjoyed the pictures of the animals the little chipmunk encountered in his nighttime boat ride. For about half a minute, I thought she was going to relax enough to contemplate a nap. No such luck, of course. She's very much like Olivia in that regard.
Mom and mom's friend Katie came to collect her shortly after 3, leaving me just enough time to race to the vet's office (God bless their Sunday afternoon hours) for a bag of Murphy's expensive prescription food. The rest of the day will be dedicated to laundry and putting the house back together - there are cans of Play-Doh and markers and papers on the dining room table, and books and puzzles on the ottoman, and Legos on the floor - evidence that a good time was had by all today.
My nieces liked that book. Also "Dragons Love Tacos."
