Tearing stuff out is so satisfying!

The history of this kitchen gets curiouser and curiouser. This cabinet was obviously built at the time the kitchen countertop was installed, and the countertop was far from new looking. But no builder would have built a cabinet over the existing carpet! When I pulled out the base of this cabinet, I found pristine light beige carpet! (The original color scheme of this condo was actually not bad, for the 80s, and far better than the sterile off-white that followed.) And when the old cabinets were torn out, I found scraps of old wallpaper behind them? So, apparently somebody remodeled the original kitchen years ago, kept the original appliances, added extra cabinets but no power or lighting to make them useful, and then added the dining room particleboard cabinet and built it in right over the existing carpet - all some time in the 80s or very early 90s, judging by the materials and color scheme.

I removed the cabinet all by myself, hauling it down to the garage in sections. There are two long pieces that I've left for when I'm fresh tomorrow, or when my daughter can come assist - they aren't heavy, but they are long enough to be awkward. Demo work and painting are my best home improvement skills - everything after the demo and before the paint is best left to others.

Two out of three appliances were delivered today - the delivery guys reported that the microwave was damaged and they'd called it in already, so I will get a call scheduling the replacement delivery.

Monday is one of the most exciting days of all!! FLOORING!!! The nasty, nasty carpet is leaving, yaaaay!!! The new flooring will take most of the week; it's not just the kitchen, it's the entire house. And it's going to be crazy and tiring to keep ahead of the flooring guy, moving my stuff out of the way so all he has to deal with is the furniture. And I have a cold, and I'm going to bed at 9 again. Do I know how to party or what?

In twenty or thirty years, someone will be tearing out all the stuff you are installing now and saying, "I wonder who picked all of this out---it is all so 2013."
