Alas...

this gloriously fresh, dry, comfortable, freak weather is going to leave us tomorrow, and it will be Summer for reals.  By the end of the week we will be deep in the heat, humidity, and all around misery that is now until Halloween. I can feel my hair frizzing in anticipation.

I have been walking in the early morning, and loving this misplaced patch of nearly chilly coolness.  My schedule is thus:  Rise at 5:15. Dogs pee.  We come in, I drink coffee, watch recorded tv, dogs have treats.  At 6:15, I throw on clothes and take dogs for their constitutional, which is usually less than a mile.  Then, depending on the time, what I have to do at work that morning, and my general mood, I dump their slow-moving asses home, and go out again for a brisk mile or two.  After the temp hits 90 and the humidity reaches Endless Swamp Ass, it won't be nearly so pleasant.

This is a fabulous iPhone app.  I picked Runmeter for the most obvious reasons: it's very highly rated and the basic version is FREE, unless you want to upgrade to the fancier features.  I haven't upgraded yet, but might.  Right now I just use it for time and distance, because it's fun to see how far it is from here to there, around the lake and back.  They also make a version called Walkmeter but it was five bucks, and I wanted to see if I liked it before paying.  Runmeter tracks walks the same way, so I'm not sure why the separate version is necessary.  The GPS function is extremely cool - it sees me in my neighborhood, and I get to watch a little line of my progress around the streets.   It's extremely quick, easy to use, and fun. And motivating.  I like to see the miles tick away, and realize that yes, I really did do 4 miles today, with and without dogs, despite sitting behind a desk for 8 hours.  It's a good thing.
