New Fridge. Tomorrow. Between 11:30 and 3:30.

Everybody pray/visualize/hope veryveryhard that the measurements are right and the walls are square, and this sucker will FIT.  It will be snug, like one of those fancy custom kitchen thingies where the fridge is inserted into the cabinets like the cabinets are Spanx.  Except of course this is a 30-ish year old condo and we are "retrofitting" (sounds more glamorous than SHOVING) a new refrigerator into the space designed for an 80s fridge. I will be tense until it is done, and if it doesn't fit, you will hear my screams and bitter tears for MILES.

But I do know how to measure, dammit! I'm both a Realtor and a Knitter, I am scary good at measuring shit! I can operate many forms of measuring devices, and My Steel Tape says the opening is 34 wide by 86.5 high, and the fridge is...okay, snug, but at least 3/4 of an inch on each side and 1/2 an inch up top.

But the thing is, this is the best choice I found!  Refrigerators have gone all ginormous (I will refrain from ranting about the need for this to accompany the Supersizing of the American Ass, but I don't think that's entirely a coincidence.) I want a pretty fridge that will fit my future kitchen remodel. Basically same footprint, not extravagantly upgraded, but spiffed up, with new stainless steel appliances and new lighting, maybe new cabinets, definitely new countertop and sink, etc.  This one works. It is not ginormous, but it has great lighting, a real shelf in the freezer, a factory installed icemaker, and was just superior. The lesser choices? So Lesser.

So please, join hands, close your eyes, and visualize the new fridge just sliding into place and making things cold. Because the ice cubes in the old fridge are a melted iceberg, and the salad I made yesterday was rusty today, and it's the holidays again, and I'd like to be able to cook.  Thank you.

What Linda said about fingers and toes. I was thinking to myself, how it happened that I came to follow your blog and I decided that it was a connection to Knitters Review. I don't think we've met, although I did attend one Retreat quite a while back. I always enjoy your perspective on things -- grandchildren, grown children, lapsed knitting, politics, etc. It's nice to start my day with a validation of sorts of my world/world view. Thanks, Catherine.
