Okay, so, first, my house is still a mess. Tomorrow's schedule includes some time blocking to sort the piles of crap that have grown like toadstools after a heavy rain.
Today started out with plans - I'll go to a meeting, go tour some places I needed to see, show two condos late this afternoon. Midway between, somebody hit the Grandma Emergency Panic Button!
My son-in-law thought he was scheduled for a work thing on Tuesday, normally his day off (he is usually home Monday-Tuesday) and I'd already cleared late Tuesday afternoon for emergency Miss D Duty until her mom got home. I scheduled showings for late this afternoon without a second thought. Until my phone rang around 3-ish. My daughter: "Um, whatcha doing?" "I'm at my computer...why?"
SiL had to be at the work thing today, not tomorrow, and I had a late afternoon showing, and much hilarity ensued, which basically meant I didn't get to catch my breath again for hours. Frantic fire drill of hand-off of small person, me getting stuff together and doing research while keeping an eye on a busy 1 year old and two dogs who adore her, all in constant motion. Many "No!" moments ensued, but I also discovered that if you hand this kid a paper towel, she'll pretend clean for many happy minutes. (Next time I'm totally introducing a Mr. Clean Magic Sponge and pointing her at the baseboards.)
But all's well, etc. Her mom sped home in record time, we all left my place together, and I had a whole ten minutes to spare to meet my customer, though, alas, not enough time to freshen makeup, comb hair, or pee. Both the Miss D and the showings were very pleasant experiences. I just had to laugh - every time I try to really be that crisp and cool and professional-slick real estate lady as seen on TeeVee, swooping in with perfect hair and makeup and cool and rehearsed, SOMETHING happens to bring me back to reality. I was prepared, I had the answers, I am on my home turf and it was fine - but my grooming, and my nametag, were just slightly askew. I guess I should be aiming for charmingly quirky here, because slick just ain't in my skill set.
Real trumps slick any day, lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks for going a teeny bit political today. Excellent choice!
ReplyDeleteAnd, when you know your job and help your customers, Charm wins, hands down. Happy Halloween with the kids!
