The DISC

I've been going through my old work materials from the Red and White company I worked for in AVL, to incorporate the good stuff into what I'm doing now.  Last night I came across my DISC profile.  I remember we were required to take it, and I remember everyone was really into it.  I also remember that so many people in that office were High D, and I was somewhat "embarrassed" by my own assessment.  (I'm an I/s.)   And boy, some of them were really, really High D!  I actually felt sort of deflated by my lack of D, because I had the impression that High D was the desired trait in that office. (Or maybe it just seemed that way because the D/I types couldn't stop talking about themselves, and it is generally seen as the classic sales profile.  :-) ) I definitely wasn't one of them, and I put my profile away and didn't look at it again for nearly two years.

I just came across it last night and started re-reading it.  It's really not so "bad"!  Mine looks like an inverted U - low D and C, very high I, nearly as high S - the "counselor" profile.  I was struck by how accurate it is - that really does sound like me, and certainly describes how I approach my work.

If you are curious about the test, there's a free one online at the Tony Robbins website:

( You will get email from them, but you can always opt out later.)

Hurricane Sandy is passing by up the coast, and right now the sky outside my window is blue and partly cloudy. We are supposed to get an inch or two of rain from it here in Seminole County, but the coast may get 4 inches.  After it passes, the weather is supposed to turn absolutely glorious, sunny and highs in the low 70, with chilly nights!  Open windows at last!  I cannot wait.

It's the end of October already. Damn. This year is flying. November is going to be madly busy - I'm doing a sales training program that will take up a lot of my time, but hopefully generate some serious business, and of course I'll be working open houses every weekend too.

I need a new knitting project. Right now I'm working on a second afghan for Miss D - the first one went to day care to be the big girl's nap blanket, so I'm making a second one for home.  But I'm having the urge to start something else - the afghan is great TV knitting, but somewhat less than stimulating.  Of course, looking at November's calendar, stimulating may be more than I can handle.

Early voting begins here tomorrow, and Girlmama and I made a plan to go vote, then visit a couple of new home communities - all dependent on the mood of Miss D, who is cutting molars right now and isn't shy about telling you how much it sucks.   Today I will get ready for the open house and get my calendar in order for November, and watch the hurricane pass.

Hey Catherine! You shouldn't be ashamed of having a low D score, even if the rest of your office has higher D scores--after all, you're obviously there for a reason, and having people with different insights always helps any company. :)

  2. It doesn't bother me NOW - that's what was funny about reviewing it! I remember when everybody was basically shouting out their "high D" scores, and the general attitude was that this was the "best" profile. I'm pretty sure my current office isn't awash in High Ds. I like being a "counselor" instead of a "salesperson." :-)
