I Voted.

Today was the first day of early voting in Florida, and I live within walking distance of one of the early voting sites, so I walked over to vote late this morning.   It was very, very busy.  Every spot in the library lot was full, and dozens of cars were parked along the shoulders of the side road. I voted early at this same spot in 2008, and didn't see 1/10th of the crowd I saw today.

There are I think just five early voting sites in our county, so people outside our very white, very middle-aged, very, very Republican district came to our polling place to cast their ballots.  I was pleased to see a very nice demographic mix, all ethnic groups and ages were well represented in the long line.   Turnout was heavy everywhere, apparently, and if this pace keeps up through election day, we may break records.

I'm done now.  I'm DVR-ing TV shows, fast-forwarding through the ads, and praying.

I'm also watching Hurricane Sandy in horrified fascination.  The current projected path is appalling - it will slam into what is basically a contiguous densely populated area with millions and millions of people, across several states, where, if projections come true, it will linger for days, pounding and drowning everything.   The storm images make Katrina look like a warm-up - this storm is monstrously huge and very, very dangerous.

Meanwhile, the weather here is supposed to be lovely for the next week - cooler, low humidity, very pleasant.  I'm hosting an open house tomorrow and hoping for a good turnout.  It's a nice day to get out and house hunt. Cross your fingers for me, internets, that nice, ready willing and able buyers stop by to say hi!

I have a busy week ahead, but I do have a couple of good books to share (audiobooks are my salvation when walking the dogs, seriously - otherwise their sniffing everyfreakingbladeofgrass would drive me out of my mind).

Either before or after the open house I need to walk through this place with a big trash bag and a ruthless attitude.  It seems like every horizontal surface has picked up a layer of clutter, and that makes me crazy. I'm behind on my filing, too, but that'll have to keep. I can at least create a filing pile and throw everything else the hell OUT.  I hate clutter. It makes me all twitchy and stressed.

It will be an early night.
