And it cost just about exactly what I'd guessed it would, so there was no extra salt rubbed into the financial wound. My son-in-law had to raise hell with the previously well-regarded air conditioning company to get them to come out to do the work late today. They knew there was a baby in the house and yet somehow felt no sense of urgency.
Last year, when a relatively minor problem caused the whole system to quit working in August, my then-7-months-pregnant daughter called them and the lady who answered was very sympathetic and concerned, and they had a guy out to fix it within an hour, which is why I told him to call them yesterday. They came out fairly promptly yesterday, then claimed they had to order the part, blah blah, and nobody would give him a definite fix time, while the temp in the house hit nearly 90 degrees. WTF?
Apparently when my son-in-law called them to light a fire under their asses he told them that I was a long-time customer, and they somehow found the part and found time in the schedule to send someone over late today. Imagine that.
I am SO not impressed - you get a long-time customer by treating a new customer well, and they totally blew that shit today, and became a formerly well regarded AC company. They lost all of us - but at least the air is blowing cold again, and we won't have to pack four dogs, a cat, three adults and a baby into this condo. We could do it, but nobody'd get much sleep. Of course, introducing Layla to stairs might have led to a million hits on YouTube, but cold air in the house is much better.
