I am exhausted, aching, and sticky from head to toe...

and I feel like I spent the entire day moving furniture. What did I do?

I spent the day with the Divine Miss D. It was her daddy's usual day to watch her but his work schedule had shifted, so they needed coverage, and also the dishwasher was having issues, so as their landlady I had to cover that, so we scheduled it all for today.

Oh, and last night they made a concession to Miss D's increasing mobility and bought those linking rubber mat play area things to put down on the hard and (thanks, Layla) usually sandy tile floor. They put a quilt down on that and made a play area for Herself. And Herself got to spend most of the day on it today.

It triggered the most passionate desire to crawl I've ever seen. She is DESPERATE to be mobile NOW. She barely ate at all and took only brief naps after exhausted tears, then she was back AT IT - rolling and bunching and inchworming furiously for the boundaries of the play area. She was all smiles and coos while doing it, she was having a ball, and only got mad and frustrated and teary when her disloyal body required a nap. I've never heard her cry so heartrendingly, and I've never seen such iron will and determination in someone who will be six months old on Thursday. We are jokingly considering her future, and right now Navy Seal is looking good. Maybe Olympic swimmer too. Watching her planning and attacking her new mission was just amazing, and I am just exhausted.

I was up and down from the floor dozens of times, lifted a big strong baby over and over and over, we took a nice walk around the lake (I was hoping the fresh air and her stroller would lead to a decent nap, but no deal) We were in motion all day. I am not in bad shape - yesterday I did 45 minutes on the elliptical at the gym, and I am flexible - but this up and down and lifting and walking and up and down again marathon went from 7 a.m. until after 4 p.m. I will be asleep at 9. I may have to call 911 to get out of bed in the morning. I hope the rescue guys are cute.

I hope they are cute too. I dont think Sophie or Murph or Higgins will be much help. But it does sound like fun.

  3. Oh boy, she sounds like a force to be reckoned with... Just think of all the fun you will have with her once she's walking and talking! That could be as soon as by December...

  4. There's just nothing like a toddler to take it out of you. Glad you guys have such a good time together. Grandkids are the best because you can spoil the dickens out of them!
