Okay, just to add a little MORE pressure, um, I mean FOCUS, to my month, maybe I should post every day in May. Vowing to post every day in December did make me a bit more organized, at least most days. Of course if I do, some of it is going so slop over into work related stuff. I'll think about it. Some of the posts might be very brief and consist of swearing and then Zzzzz....
My daughter brought the baby over for a couple of hours yesterday, and a good and exhausting time was had by all. She's mobile now - not hands and knees crawling yet, but combat crawling, and she can push herself up to a sitting position at will. The dogs were of course obsessed and couldn't stop kissing her. Murphy had to go to timeout in the crate for a while, until he wound down from absolutely crazy to just really excited.
Miss D took the obsessive kissing in stride and dealt a couple of paybacks. She can reach and grab now, and we had to disentangle her fingers from Murphy's facial hair more than once. At one point she had the hair on the top of his head in a firm grip and was yanking it upward. His eyes were bugging, but his face never lost its serene expression of Adoration: "It's okay, our baby can do anything she wants!" We pried her fingers loose, but he didn't seem to notice either way. He was too busy sneaking kisses. Both dogs got a share of manhandling, um, babyhandling, and neither minded a bit. They love her to bits and are infinitely patient with her. I was really impressed - Murphy is actually better with Miss D than he was with Supergirl. The older cousin had to put up with the crazier dog. Murphy is a bit older and he calmed down faster than he did just a year ago. They were both extremely well behaved with her, Murphy didn't shit himself with excitement. (He was quite explosive on our morning walkie, it was a delayed reaction.)
And he needs dental surgery. He needs it Bad. I put it off with the vet's agreement, because I had business startup stuff to do, and because he was still unstable in the pooping department at his last visit. But it's so bad that his gums are oozing - I find bloody drool spots on the sheets some mornings. That is not something we can put off. So it's scheduled for May 10.
On a semi-related note, I've been paring down my Stuff - even the stuff I moved, including, no, especially my yarn stash. I put a bunch of yarn I will never get around to using on Ravelry this weekend. If you are curious, I'm Aunt Maisie on Rav.
I've faced some realities about my knitting life: 1) I don't have a lot of time to do it. 2) I live three inches from the Sun and have a really limited need for wool sweaters. 3) I don't like to knit laceweight yarn. 4) I don't need to knit socks. I don't wear socks, other than the white cotton kind you wear at the gym. I moved 4 large Rubbermaid tubs of yarn, and they are currently taking up space in my walk-in closet. I'd like to cut that in half eventually - some of it to actually knitting it, the rest will go on Rav, little by little.
May is going to be scary busy on all fronts.
