It's been really warm here, and now we are hitting a stretch of yo-yo weather - 85 degrees a couple of days before Christmas has turned to a couple of nights of freezing temps. It'll be cold for a couple of days, then warm to 70 by the end of the week. I tested the fireplace by firing up a cone of newspaper and it draws nicely, so later I will actually light a fire and get back to work on Supergirl's Sweet Dreams Blankie 2.0 - I've assembled the squares made so far, and I'm about halfway done. I'm making this one a bit larger, because I hope it will last until she's, say, in 2nd grade and decides she hates those colors and wants one in purple and lime green, or whatever. Dinner will be leftover black eyed peas - they were delish, sorry bep haters! and the last of the kale, and then I will retire to the couch with dogs and a fire.
I know it seems crazy to have a fireplace in Florida, but in Central FL it makes more sense than you think. A fire is often just enough to take the chill off and avoid turning on the heat. My little herbs are safely stashed on the bookcase in the living room. It'll be warm enough to put them outside again by mid-morning, but they do need shelter for the coldest part of the night.
My winter stuff is stashed in zippered bags under the bed. I guess I should poke around in there and find stuff to wear in the morning for walkies (and God, I hope I put their sweaters in with my knitted stuff - I think I did, but I've lost random things in this move and it's driving me nuts). But I won't be dragging out the lined UGGs - much as I love them, I believe that would be overkill.
I managed to get in a bike ride today. I have only had one or two rides since reclaiming the bike, and today was sunny and lovely so I went for a ride, before the weather turns cold and I won't be able to ride again until...Saturday.
