At Least They Are Consistent.

Remember the fun I had with Sears, when I called them to get my dryer fixed?

The fridge here isn't keeping food cold enough. The freezer is almost, but not quite, freezing. The fridge is just a notch above properly cold. Both are on the maximum coldness setting, and it's just not cutting it. Food isn't staying fresh, and when you eat a diet very heavy on fresh produce, this is an issue. Stuff is spoiling way faster than it should.

I have a home warranty (something I heartily endorse for any buyer OR seller) and put in a service request through the warranty company.

Imagine my heartfelt groan of dismay when they sent the confirmation of my request and it said they'd assigned it to Sears. Okay, well, whatever, let's not be judgy, maybe Sears is perfectly fine here! 24 hours passed. No call from Sears. I was about to call the warranty company to tell them I hadn't been contacted when I finally heard from them today, and the gal on the phone asked about the problem and confirmed my information, and said that the soonest they could come look at it would be the 23rd! I made the request on the 15th! 8 days to get somebody to come out (assuming they would actually show up, of course) was simply not going to cut it, and I told the girl so. She was very nice and said she would get the warranty company on the line so we could find someone else. She put me on hold and placed the call, and I assumed we would have a 3-way conversation to discuss the issue.

Wrong. She just transferred me back to the warranty company and didn't stay on the line, she'd hung up. On to the next victim, I suppose. Good riddance to bad service.

So the warranty company has assigned a different company to my repair. Let's hope I hear from them in the next 24 hours, and that they can show up in under a week.

That is not acceptable! And you really did not need just a tad more stress, did you?
The last time I had a problem with a fridge, we were new in town, the fridge was also brand-new, so I rang the retailer (they did not do service but I reckoned they had better local knowledge). This was a week before Christmas. The saleslady I hd dealt with told me to hang up and she would organise everything. She did too, the service bloke she whistled up for me even arrived (an hour later) with a spare fridge in case he could not fix mine on the spot. Not needed, but much appreciated for his intelligence. It was just the thermostat, take out the dud, bung in the new one, fixed. The fridge is still going 18 years later (made in NZ.)

I hope your warranty company hears this stuff.

  3. I remember when Kenmore was the gold standard of appliances and Sears Service was wonderful. But maybe their own issues explain why they couldn't come see my GE refrigerator until the middle of next week.
