Back to AVL

I'm leaving for AVL today and shifting gears to celebrating my son's wedding.

Delaney is home, safe and sound, eating well, sleeping for some decent stretches now and then, and insanely cute. The intro to the dogs went very easily - they've both seen her, sniffed her, wagged and wiggled, but aren't obsessed with her or jealous. They are getting lots of praise for being good, and my son-in-law is making a point of playing with Layla outdoors to tire her out. At one point last night my daughter held her on the couch while Dudley slept beside them. He's the one we were most concerned about, as his enthusiastic love is a lot like an assault, but he's being very good and keeping his excitement controlled. They do not need a baby monitor with Layla around - I was in the front of the house in the kitchen with the dogs when the baby woke up in the master bedroom at the back of the house. Layla heard the first soft little "Eh-eh" and tore through the house to stand at the door on full alert, ears up, tail wagging.

I'm so glad I got to be here for her birth. I missed this stage with Adelaide, aka Supergirl. By the time I visited she was a couple of weeks old, and I didn't get to see the incredible, almost hourly changes in a newborn's appearance. As my daughter said, every time she wakes up from a nap she looks a little different.

But it's time for me to tear myself away and shift gears to wedding and moving mode. The next two weeks are insane. Back to AVL today. Packpackpack. Arrange for homeowners' insurance, review title on the condo, confirm details with mover and schedule closing. Confirm guest count for rehearsal dinner. Fight with the local board of realtors for the hefty key deposit they freaking owe me - they are neither answering the phone nor returning my calls. Haircut. Sophie's nails need clipping. Return the outfit that lost the MOG sweepstakes. Follow up on a client I referred to another agent - they should be closing soon, if they haven't already. Call FREC about my crazy license status - do I apply as an out of state resident, which I am now, or as in-state, which I will be by the time they finish processing me? Logic would say the latter, but logic has nothing to do with it. Okay, that's Mon-Wed.

Thursday Cousin C arrives. Friday, rehearsal dinner. Saturday, WEDDING! Sunday, festivities continued, including an afternoon and dinner at the Biltmore. Monday, back to FL. Close on condo, move in the stuff I hauled with me. Snuggle baby, then BACK to AVL to do the Serious Packing. Moving van, 11/1. Back to FL for keeps, to settle into my new home.

Oh, and on a dietary note, I abandoned my vegan eating while here, and this morning my joints ache again. Pretty much confirms that it does make a difference for me.

  2. I'm exhausted too, and soo bummed that the pics I took in the hospital aren't half as good as the one I posted from my phone. Next week she'll be a whole new baby and I'll update then.

  3. Confession: I read your blog, usually, while I'm on a break at work (shhhh) and the system won't let me comment. But I've been watching all the excitement and wishing you well from afar, offering congratulations, and marveling at your stamina! The baby is so precious. Those cousins will have fun together!

Have fun these next few days!
