Blogger signed me out.
Life is crazy, but in a mostly happy way. I had a BAD week last week - I had a rip-roaring summer cold which just wouldn't leave, and also saw everybody around me in my "rookie class" at the brokerage running around busy with clients and stuff, while I...showed one house to a guy who was just using me for my key access so he could write his own deal and cut me out (he was a broker, though not working at the time). At least he was forthcoming about it when I asked him his intentions, and his wife didn't like the house so it wasn't going to BE a deal. For me, it was a preview of a house I hadn't seen, nothing more. It was just an hour or so of my day, "no harm, no foul". But "no clients, no money," isn't such a cute little saying, and that's where I have been, with a miserable head cold and a general feeling of disconnection from the rest of the world, like the world was moving on around me, and I was stuck in the mud, or in my sinuses packed with snot, or whatever I was mired in. A goo of inaction that made me very tired.
Anyway, it was quite the global state of suck. I felt sick and tired and unsure of my direction, and depressed about it all. But I spent a lot of time and money in relocating my life here, and dammit, I intend to make it work. So I woke up yesterday morning in warrior mode, and picked things I would do to change my path. So far, they are paying off in a nice way, but I'll not get more specific. It's not huge and spectacular, but it's a gentle shifting of the tide to feeling positive and involved and taking control of the rest of the year.
And on that note, in a fiber way, I am in UFO Warrior Mode. I actually moved about half a dozen UFOs last year, and they have been residing in plastic bags in the guest room closet. While I was fighting my nasty cold last week, I was somehow drawn to the plastic tub of granny squares that I'd been toting around since my abortive attempt at a bright sunny granny square afghan. I haven't crocheted in 5 years because it irritates my carpal tunnel too much, so I'm thinking these squares were about 8 years old. They pre-date the discontinuation and subsequent revival of Lion Brand Cotton-ease, so do the math and carbon date this project your ownself. It has been lingering.
While I was sick I sat my ass down, put my feet up, and assembled the squares into a nice toddler-sized blankie. I'm pleased. I'm not sure which makes me happier - that it turned out so cute, or that the damn thing is just finally DONE. I think this was my oldest surviving UFO, and finishing it is satisfying.
Another UFO got ripped, and the yarn may get donated to the county charity yarn pool for someone else's enjoyment. I've tried it in a few ways and it just isn't speaking to me. I think it needs to be re-homed, and I am fine with that.
The important thing is that the tide turned, and I have a full calendar of good stuff for the next week.
Warrior Mode. I like it! I've been spinning with the Tour de Fleece and really enjoying it. I know exactly what you mean about yarn 'speaking' to you.
ReplyDeleteAnd the blanket? Precious! Nicely done:)
If we could just find an industrial application for snot, we sinus sufferers would be raking in the millions.
ReplyDeleteHave just added shingles to the sinus problem. Nice, I don't think.

Your blanket is lovely---I am really a knitter, but I have been dabbling with crocheted potholders for the last few weeks. I want to crochet an afghan, but I don't know if I have the chops for it yet. I also want it to be washable since my Yorkie sleeps in my bed and shares the couch with me, but I'm trying to work through my stash and don't want to buy a ton of acrylic yarn to get enough colors to make a good afghan. It's also hard to find enough colors in my local stores, since I'm pretty limited to the big box places like Hobby Lobby and Joann's. Have patience with your real estate venture---after you develop more contacts and get yourself more established in the area, it will pick up. I'm an only child too, and I admire how outgoing you seem to be---I'm almost 50, and I have never gotten over being really shy. I don't know if being an only has anything to do with that, or if it's just the way I am.
ReplyDeleteBrenda.
Good on you, Grrrl! That blankie is adorable-- which grandbaby is it for?
ReplyDeleteI believe this blankie will go to Florida, because it's cotton and will be a good year-round weight when Granddaughter Two grows into it. I have another UFO on needles, intended for Supergirl - a freeform blocks log-cabin-like thing, in brights offset with random chunks of chocolate brown. It is superwash wool, and I am thinking it will be a nice extra Christmas gift.
