Okay, so we are on the home stretch on this broker's license class - Thursday class, Tuesday Exam, and done, in theory. Thursday's class may be screwed by snow. And then, today, the news - the school is closing (or being sold, or whatever) following the conclusion of our class. We signed on with "We're with you until you pass the state exam!" contractual promises, but, um, perhaps not? I'm not too worried for ME, because I think I can fake my way through this without too much trouble, but a lot of people are really struggling, and now they are basically SOL.
I do love the earnest "That's Not Right"-ness of the Smart Businessmen my age in the class, who proceeded to bluster about what can we do about this? I listened for a bit and then pointed out that we were out the cost of the licensing class if we didn't pass on the first go-round, and per the contract if they canceled a class they were liable for fees, so in this scenario they'd be liable for the cost of the class at worst. They are providing the required class hours, so if they are shutting down and have no way to provide the guarantees of following up with future help, I'm betting that they'd write you a check for your fee to be done with you if you flunk out. The Smart Businessmen Harrumphed, but didn't argue. It's so cute how they really believe in their fantasy world of How It's Supposed to Be.
As I said, I don't think this will affect me much - I'll study my ass off and get through the class test, and go on my way. It's an inconvenience, because I really was planning to take my post-license required classes at this same convenient location, and now, not happening. That's a pain, but whatever. I have other things in the works, and just keep those good vibes coming. But this is still shaping up to be WTFebruary.
You've got your stuff together and your ducks in a row. You'll be just fine:)

ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with your post, but you wrote a while ago and knitting cowls. Have you seen the "Gap-tastic" cowl? It is a freebie on Ravelry, and is quick to knit out of bulky yarn. I have knit two out of stash yarn (one for my 80-year-old mom for Valentine's Day) and want to order some Brown Sheep in the bluky weight for one more. Good luck on your test---my guess would be that your classmates will be hard-pressed to find someone to honor that guarantee after the class ends and the current owners/management move on.

I believe in you :) (and by the way I LOVE WTFebruary lol!)
