Because the first step of any diet (along with shrieking in horror and plunging into depression) is getting on the scale and/or standing naked in front of the mirror, I dragged out the stash today. I do not need to buy yarn in 2007. I may not need to buy any for the rest of my life.
I can make about 10 sweaters with the yarn in my stash, and I live in Florida and may be moving to a beach town in the coming year. Yeah, that merino wool will come in mighty handy.
I have enough sock-type yarn to make a boatload of socks, and I don't even wear socks other than the white cotton ones for working out. I put on my handknit socks maybe 12 times last winter. Twice so far this year. Global warming and handknit socks in Florida - the two are not compatible.
I am well stocked with shawl-appropriate yarn. Shawl yarn is the one thing I actually will use, because a light shawl over sleeveless makes sense in air conditioning. My arms are usually cold and I seldom wear totally sleeveless because of this, but if I'm moving to an even sunnier and beach-bar-intensive climate I shall need wraps.
I will be doing a lot of charity knitting in 2007. I love to work with wool, but it's December 31st and it's 77 degrees at 6 p.m., and humid. Dulaan will be the beneficiary of the stash. I am going to focus on blankets and hats and sweaters from nice soft wool.
For myself, this will be the year of the tank. I am way too lazy to organize a Knit-a-Long, but if anyone has the ambition to organized a "Get Tanked in 2007" KAL, I'll bring the pinot grigio and the cotton yarn.
Ah, the reckoning -- a good start to a diet! Happy New Year and Good Knitting in 2007, Catherine.

Mizzy Catherine,
ReplyDeleteA jolly 2007 to you & yours. Thanks for making my 2006 blog reading so entertaining.
Just did a post on my blog w/the UFO & stash-busting ideas from Claudia of Country Wool. Her ideas & your ideas are ones I plan to incorporate into my year-in-yarn-&-fiber.
Lotsa XOXO to you in the new year.
I got a good chuckle over your statement that you won't need to buy yarn in 2007, or maybe ever! That describes me so well, I MUST resolve to use up all the yarn I have around the house before buying any more.
ReplyDeleteGood luck using up your stash!
Regards,
Cecile
