Tough Love
I just had the most amazing conversation with my mother. Tough love works - walking out, going home and leaving her alone this morning was the best thing I could have done. She made phone calls, called the funeral home, set appointments, and is taking care of business. Had I stayed it would have been so easy to transfer the burdens of reality onto me. I'll go over tomorrow to help with the funeral arrangements, mostly because I've been through this used car dealer process and I have seen the bullshit. But she's thinking, accepting, figuring things out. At least so far. I don't expect miracles, I'm just pleased to see that reality has gotten a toe in the door.

Good for you for standing strong in such a tough time during which most of us would have caved immediately and borne double the grief.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for the loss of youor Father and will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Email if there is ANYTHING else I can do.
Blessings,
Greta
I am sorry that you've been hit with all this crap, but I'm glad to see your mother finally realise that she's an adult and that she has to take some responsibility. I'm also sorry that it had to get to this before she woke up to herself. I'll keep you in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMissy C,
ReplyDeletePlease know that I am sending lots of light & love to you along w/ tho'ts of good beer & a good bottle opener (especially since we did not have one back at the MD S & W F in 2005!) as well as tho'ts of good Law & Order re-runs.
Your family members are indeed lucky to have you as a relative.
XOXO
may it continue to go as well as it can, chica.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are having to go through this.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself.
I'm glad that your mother is stepping up. It sounds like even if you have to do everything else, she has started the ball rolling and that makes it somewhat easier.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss, and the mess you've gotten dumped in your lap. I'm glad your mother is coming around to dealing with reality. Take care of yourself....
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Try to get some rest.
