Dear God: I do not like your sense of humor.

So, remember I said I bought myself a nice camera that I have been saving and shopping for for TWO YEARS for my birthday?

So tonight I started a load of laundry. I went to put it in the dryer, and...huh? It's sitting there, in mid-cycle, full of water, dead.

I groaned, "Oh noooo...." and tried a different cycle. It started again.

The washer and dryer are almost 15 years old. You don't repair 15 year old appliances, you salute them as they go to their resting place. The Kenmore Twins have served in two houses and two apartments. They deserve to retire. I almost bought new ones the last time Sears offered No Interest - but damn, next time they do, it's not an option anymore.

I brought this upon myself, I bought a camera. I'm not supposed to own anything fun, I tempted fate. I must be punished. I guess I should look on the bright side, if I'd fallen for the Bose radio the entire house would have caved in.

  1. A moment of silence.
I first started reading you when something else fell apart and you said about it ( I don't recall what it was)"XXX, we hardly knew ye" But apparently, yee knew your dryer well and often.
    RIP.

  2. You know what? I think it is the Curse of the Camera. I bought a new one, and had to have my transmission rebuilt.

I bought one and my dryer committed hari-kari. We picked up a used one at an appliance store for 75 bucks and hopefully it'll last us until we can get a new one.
heh, going to the laundromat would be a good excuse to avoid travelling to your parent's house on the weekends. just saying.

  4. I never seemed to get as far as buying anything, I only had to have some spare money and something would break down or otherwise mop up the cash. I figured I should be thankful that at least I had the money - it would be worse if something broke, and I didn't have it.

Saw your comment on Crazy Aunt Purl's blog, and I just had to visit since we share a name

  5. This happens to me, too--I thought it was just me. I just bought a Lendrum double-treadle wheel for my birthday, and it took me forever to actually decide to spend all that money because I kept feeling that I was gonna need it for someting else. Now that I've done it, I'm just waiting for something bad to happen.

    How sad is that?

    (PS--enjoy that camera!)
