Courtesy of my daughter. She is what is termed an "early adopter," particularly when it comes to makeup and hair products. This is perhaps directly related to the incredible number of magazines she buys. I fear that the weight of fashion and gossip magazines on my coffee table right now is going to bow its heavy iron legs and crack its thick plank top. But I digress....
She brought home this new foundation by L'Oreal - Pure Minerals. It's a "mineral foundation" product like Bare Escensuals, but it costs less than $15. (It's so new, it's not even on the L'Oreal website yet, or I'd link to it.) I love it. I borrowed hers this morning, and after a day of running around in 96 degree heat, I had to go buy a jar of my own so she doesn't kill me for using hers. This climate is hard on foundation, as you can imagine, but I am not thrilled with walking around with my bare face hanging out in all its blotchy glory like a victim of heatstroke. After a full afternoon of running errands and walking through parking lots that were well over 100 degrees and getting into a hot car that was God I don't want to think what temperature, I still have makeup on my face! I am not a melted, red, blotched mess! I love this stuff! And it's cheap!
Whoah! Really? I've always had a problem with oily skin--makeup just disappears. Even the stuff meant for oily skin. I wonder if that new stuff would work on me?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I'm finally past the age of oily skin but I do sweat like a ditchdigger, and I'm sitting here at 8 pm wearing makeup I put on 10 hours ago in very hot climate, and it's still there. I had to go buy my own. Girl is oilier than I and she loves the stuff. It's really nice, and it doesn't look/feel like makeup. I put it on and didn't see anything happening - I'm used to using a roller and latex. Then I realized my face really did look all even and nice and not blotchy. I use concealer under my eyes - genetically determined circles - and it worked perfectly with the concealer. It's good stuff, and under fifteen bucks? Worth a shot. Go, L'Oreal.
ReplyDeleteYee ha! I think I'm gonna get some of that. It certainly can't perform worse than the others I've tried.
ReplyDeleteI don't sweat so much, but am still definitely at the oily stage--You'd think I'd be past the "oily" stage by 41, but no go. All of the foundations I've tried either start out as kabuki masks that last a few hours or disappear within an hour.
Hmmm... I'm currently using the Bare Escensuals foundation, but when I finish my current jar I might give this stuff a try.... =)
ReplyDeleteI've used the Bar Escentuals stuff now for a couple of years. I thought it was pricey to try, but then I found that my little container at $25 lasted about 9 months... seemed worth it to me. I'll keep an eye out for the L'Oreal stuff-- maybe they'll come out w/ similar blushes & eyeshadows??

I don't suppose you happen to know if its as allergy free as the actual Bare Minerals do you? (thats a retorical question that I *KNOW* you won't know, but it was what went through my mind - because Bare Minerals is the only makeup my mom has ever been able to wear on a regular basis in her entire life... same with another co-worker of hers who wears it for the same reason...)
ReplyDeleteI also wear it - but I'm lazy enough not to wear it all that often (and don't wear it that heavy) that it lasts almost forever for me, so it hasn't ended up being too expensive (considering my alternative is Clinique - as the daughter of a woman who is allergic and sensitive to a lot of things - the first makeup I was ever allowed to wear was Clinique... of course I did have a bad run in with some drugstore brand face powder in 7th grade which made me decide maybe my mother had a point...)
Anyway, going to have to look for it none the less...
oooo I might give this a try. I've NEVER been able to wear make-up and not have it look just awful. I really need to do something now.
ReplyDeleteDudley is very, very cute, Catherine. I'll bet he's got a LOT of energy.
Hi. I have been looking for this makeup ever since you mentioned it. Where oh where did you buy it? I cannot find it in my neighborhood. THanks.
ReplyDeleteI found it at a big, freestanding Walgreens with a big makeup department. As I said, it's very new and isn't even on their site yet. Maybe it's a test marketing thing and not available everywhere yet?
