Oh my God.

Wilma.

Yesterday the predictions said that Wilma would become a 3 and then cool off in the Gulf and hit as something weaker. Now it's a huge fierce 5, which means even if it cools off it may come in as a 3, around Sarasota. Or Tampa. I'm looking at how the models were all south of Lake Okeechobee last night, and now they're sliding north. Damn. How many hits like this can this country take in one season?

  1. I know you usually stick storms out, but if this gets any closer, PLEASE get thee and thy family (fleshed, furred or otherwise) away!!!

If you need to come as far north as DC, you've got a place to stay - you know the bunch of us would put you up in a heartbeat.

I hear Clara's got room at her place in Maine...

  2. Please don't sit this one out. Round up everyone, including the furred ones, and head north ahead of time.

You know that bloggers everywhere will find a bed or two for all of you. This one is looking really nasty.

It truly is better to be safe with one. Even if it hits the southern end of the state, you know you will have some of the winds and rain.

  3. Maine sounds wonderful, Amie, but we're fine here - we're in the middle of the state, when they evacuate the coasts they send them here. It looks like the latest models have no idea where the storm is going yet. If it goes south of here we'll get wind and rain, and I'm making ice and checking the pet food and battery stash. And Chloe, I wasn't speaking metaphorically, I work in construction and we're already dealing with material and labor shortages and cost increases, and everybody knows what's happened with the price of gas, and the ripple effect on goods in general. Economically, another hit could take out some insurance companies and make a bad situation even worse.

Hi hi! My boss is out today, so i am catching up on my favorite blogs, hi!

Wilma. I know. I'm scared for my folks, they are right on the water in Hernando Beach. I just hope something miraculous happens and this one peters out, you know?

You stay safe and keep the wine handy.

  5. I'm not worried about me, but my folks are closer to the coast and my dad's on oxygen (congestive heart failure). He has battery backup and portable tanks, he should be okay if they lose power and they are on the priority list when power goes out. No room for them here, and last year I had no power for a week while they didn't lose it at all, so moving here wouldn't be a great option anyway. It's supposed to peter out somewhat when it gets into the Gulf, but nobody can tell yet. Do you read Weather Underground? www.wunderground.com - click the Tropical link and look for the blogs by Steve Gregory and Jeff Masters. I trust them - the Weather Channel, not so much.
