Congrats! It looks much better than most of the things I put together on my own. ;-) And yep, looks like Real Furniture. I *love* Target. When I found out they don't have any in Canada, I almost rethought the whole "God, I'd rather live there than in Dubya Land" thing. Almost.
I don't mind assembling furniture, I'm just always amazed at how LONG it takes - it was three hours start to finish, and I didn't take any breaks or have to take it apart and do it again. And by the end, when most of it is together and I'm lifting it to turn it over to assemble the feet, it was damn heavy. But the results are worth it, it really is Real Furniture. Ethan Allen would charge a grand for a console TV stand, I can get it from Target for $299.
If it backed up to something ugly I'd put it on, and I may regret skipping it later if I move, but right now the red wall is the best backdrop for the open shelves. It'll blend even better with the deep red at the back of the open space.
if worst comes to worst, and you do move somewhere that would be ugly behind it (i can't imagine it out of you), you can always buy a half sheet of 1/8" oak veneer plywood ( or maple, or your choice) and stain it to match. if you can knit, and can put together furniture, you can do that. looks great!
Excellent idea about a half sheet of veneer - I can always add that later. I do not fear furniture. I actually enjoy doing things like this, but every time I do it I'm surprised at how long it takes and how heavy/hot/sweaty a job it is. This really was an easy assembly - not nearly as many pieces as the guest room dresser - but this sucker was heavy and I'm aching like a rotten tooth today!

ReplyDeleteYou did a good job on the TV cabinet/stand. Agree with your idea on leaving off the particleboard back.
