I love my little house, I love my neighborhood, and Progress Energy and Bright House Networks are awesome - the eye of Charley passed right over my neighborhood as a Category 1 storm and the lights and cable flickered a few times but didn't go out. The wind was very loud, the rain was very heavy and horizontal, at one point something hit my house with a big thud that made Murphy jump up and bark. At that point Murphy and I retreated to my makeshift safe room away from the windows and skylight and watched the little tv in there, it was very comfortable and I felt secure in there. A lot of area neighborhoods have real damage but as far as I could see while walking Murphy a minute ago, mine came through fine. My street is covered with a coleslaw of small tree branches and chunks of shrubbery, but all the houses look untouched. My 20-something roof and skylight did not leak, but I will check for missing shingles or other damage when the sun comes up later.
Believe it or not, we are supposed to have MORE heavy rain today - what is up with THAT? Normally when a hurricane or tropical storm blows through we get a day of crisp fresh air, but not this time. More knitting time.
Thanks for all the good wishes, everybody, watching all the damage on the TV, even locally (after Charley passed my house it went to the Sanford-Orlando International Airport and flipped planes) I feel like one of the lucky ones today.
