I did it. I bought jelly jars and canning tools at Target, and my first adventure in making jam is before me. I cut up the two mangoes I had on hand and froze them while awaiting this week's delivery from Boss's other house - the two almost filled a gallon-sized freezer bag. (I'm not kidding when I say these are monsters.) They are so ripe and juicy that jam, sorbet and mango curd seem to be the way to go with them - slices are too soft and wet to hold their shape. Their flavor is very intense and very sweet, I think the jam will be incredible.

It's insanely hot outside. The outdoor thermometers I saw were in disagreement, but it's safe to say it's somewhere between 97 and 103. No rain. My insanely clean neighbor was outside doing yard work at noon, when I left to go to Target. I thought I was nuts to go shopping in that heat, she's out there for hours. I know she's young and a fanatical housekeeper, but honey, the rest of us do the inside work when it's 100 degrees, the outside work when it cools off a bit. You might want to try that.

This morning I dragged the box containing my dresser parts into the back bedroom and opened it and read the instructions. Screwdriver. Check. Tape Measure. Check. Hammer. Check. Glue. Check. Drill. Shit. I didn't know I'd need a drill, my previous furniture assembly experiences (and I'm very experienced at this) didn't require one. I don't have a drill I can use - I had my husband's old drill and passed it along to my son, because it's ancient and way too heavy for my scrawny carpal tunnel afflicted wrists to handle. I can barely lift the damn thing, let alone control it. Target provided a small Black and Decker cordless on sale. Of course it has to charge and it's already 4 in the afternoon, so no dresser today, maybe dresser tomorrow.

No under-cabinet kitchen lights today either. Apparently they didn't come in, since my Home Improvement God didn't call to say he'd be over to put them up. And as I predicted, the rain chances for Monday-Tuesday go above 50% for the first time in days. I'm surprised a tropical storm didn't form, but the truck isn't coming yet so there's still time for one.

No knitting so far, but that's my plan for the rest of the weekend. The mountain of laundry (it did include the curtains I'd taken down, plus cat beds and such) is being whittled down. I've purchased a drill and tomorrow I can assemble a dresser. If I get through laundry, yarn inventory and dresser assembly this weekend I'm content, I don't need to kill myself every damn weekend. I'm not Mrs. Clean across the street.

I sort of casually inventoried my yarn stash while moving it around. I have enough yarn for...anything. For a long time. No more yarn for me. Must knit/crochet from stash. Yes.

Happy news - many Kerry bumper sticker sightings, here in More Republican than a Weekend with Poppy and Babs Land. Methinks people are waking up. My favorite sticker is so elegantly simple - a W with the red-circle-and-line-through-it. I want one.
