Did I call it or what? The elusive patio truck is due Monday or Tuesday, so a low pressure system promptly formed and is going to dump rain on us for several days.
I spent most of the afternoon putting the dresser together, and I'm not done yet. It's a double dresser, fairly substantial, and has approximately eleventy-zillion pieces, each requiring attaching in a dozen places by various means. The drawers are done. The top is done. The bottom is done. The center support is assembled. (I have yet to use the drill they told me I needed, so I assume this comes later.) But we were approaching Heavy Lifting, I saw it on the horizon, and at this point my back said that it had enough after sitting on the floor for hours, so I called it a day. It took almost three hours of fairly steady work (okay, while watching a movie) to get to that point. It's not difficult to assemble at all, it is coming together beautifully, but sorting parts and studying diagrams does take time. Did I mention that it has eleventy-jillion parts? God bless my nice little power screwdriver, I have only ignorable wrist pain after three hours of screwing. (Oh, THAT phrase should attract some interesting Google hits. Won't THEY be disappointed!)
I caught the first few minutes of Knitty Gritty on DIY, just enough to ensure that I didn't need to see it this week. Not that this is a criticism, it's a fine show with great camera work and personable people and cute projects, but it's geared toward the newest of new knitters, and today they were introducing stockinette stitch. As I ooze stockinette from my pores and am apparently the only experienced knitter who doesn't hate it, I didn't stick around to see how to knit a guitar strap. I should have tuned in for the finishing part to see what she did with the fabric backing (heavy guitar, knitted strap - that ain't gonna work without a fabric backing) but I think I can figure that out. But it made me think - I don't know anybody who would actually want a glittery faux-fur trimmed guitar strap, but how attractive would it be in a nice Celtic-ish cablework? (Yes, I do cable, I'm not a total stockinette slacker.) A sturdy mercerized cotton, a sturdy fabric backing, that could be really different. I need to file that in the inspiration file for retrieval later.
I want to make a poncho or two. I just haven't found THE poncho pattern that screams to be made. I'm noodling along on the All Seasons Shawl, I totally love it still but the rows are getting quite long now. I'm questioning my own sanity at thinking of ponchos when these huge shawl rows are becoming slightly off-putting.
Tomorrow Cabinet Lady comes to hang the last cabinet and trim everything out. I must have faith that someday there will be under-cabinet lights and a patio, and I will also finish that freaking dresser. And obtain a daybed. Then I think I'm done. I know I'm done. I want to do something besides spend money on fixing up this house.
