Oh wow, it's really raining. Really, really, really raining. Finally! Last night the Scattered Thunderstorm route skipped my house. Clouds built in the west, fast and ominous, like a special effect from a Spielberg movie. It got very, very dark. Not a freaking drop of rain fell, and the clouds moved east to dump rain on Winter Park. Such is the scattered thunderstorm. But today it's dumping a good inch on my sad, dead little yard, and I am very, very glad. The tomatoes didn't survive the 95 degree days while Mommy was at work. They are anorexic and put out only the smallest of fruit. Every day I would come home to find them drooping, sun-scorched and pitiful, and turn on the sprinkler, which kept them alive but not healthy enough to produce decent tomatoes. Eh. I am going to give up the idea that I can maintain a vegetable garden, the interior of the house, a career and a social life. I can buy vegetables cheaper than I can hire a maid.

Knitting: Finishing brown striped felted bag this weekend, in anticipation of getting the blues early next week, possibly on my birthday on Monday. Not the birthday blues (though I may have those too) the Cascade 220 blues from Threadbear. I have a plan (for a change): a blue bag with green trim, accompanied by a small zippered pouch in blue, green, purple, rose, pale yellow - when stressed, one needs to handle Cascade 220 and think of Monet's gardens. And though it is 95 degrees outside, I'm determined to get a head start on cool-weather knitting, because with my track record on finishing things I need to start December's sweaters in July. Top-down cardigans, that's what's on the menu. The Stash from Hell has lovely rich olive green Patons Classic Wool, and neutral oatmeal Plymouth Galway, and enough of both to make a couple of extremely useful cardigans, one for me and one for the Girl, if she wants. Oh, and there's also the faux-Manos scored on eBay last year, that's going to be a ribby cardie for moi. I just realized that a ribby cardie in the blue Manos-like-substance will look great with the CC bag, and both will work with my uniform of jeans on weekends.

It's still raining out there and now thundering like the end of the world, so perhaps I should end this, though I do have a mighty fine surge protector/UPS behind this machine, one should not tempt fate.
