It really sucks to live without a kitchen. I am so very, very over it.
I painted today, and quit when I hit the bottom of the first gallon. I see some spots that need touch-up and I need to paint the pantry doors, but I figured finishing the first gallon was a good stopping place. I really like the color, it looks great with the granite sample (I hold it up to it frequently to admire this). I think it will look great when it's all done and together, wheneverthehell that may be. Tomorrow the cabinets are delivered, and the day after the installers come to put them in, but that does not mean the kitchen is "done" because after a week after that we will achieve Lighting, and of course there is the long wait for the countertop, which means still no kitchen sink, still no dishwasher. At least I will get my microwave back (it's sitting on the floor in the garage right now)which will expand my culinary repertoire to include Lean Cuisines. It's quite challenging to plan healthy meals that can be cleaned up in a small bathroom sink. When I finally have a countertop and a sink and a dishwasher again, I swear I will never take them for granted. Have you hugged your countertop today?
I have been reduced to buying pre-made supermarket iced tea to drink out of disposable plastic cups, because it's nearly impossible to rinse the iced tea pitcher in that shallow bathroom sink. I discovered that I like the supermarket iced tea. Who knew?
No knitting progress, but I am crocheting the All Season Shawl in the denim-ish blue Cotton Fleece, and I really like it. It's going to be big and comfy and casual, the kind of thing I can throw into the back seat of the car with no fear of hurting it. I've also been fooling around with crochet stitch swatches in cotton (aka washcloths) and re-discovered the "crunch stitch" -a half-double crochet followed by a slip stitch. I've been thinking of a cotton bag with bamboo handles, and this may be the stitch.
And like an idiot I forgot to take a picture of the Little Diva's Preschool Graduation Gift - white flip-flops from Target gussied-up with Patons Twister in multicolored brights. I crocheted the yarn onto them rather than knitting, it was stupidly easy and fast and the results were great. But I'm an idiot and didn't take a picture.
It's insanely hot here - heat index of like 105, no rain, the lawn is shredded wheat. The Great Kitchen Project is wearing me out and pissing me off and feels like it will never be done, and I'm sick of the disruption and mess. Mindless little projects are just the ticket right now - I'll think about knitting again someday, but not today.
