So, the Miami document production cratered (due to rampant stupidity on a side other than our own) late this afternoon, and I'm not driving five hours down and back to Miami just for a picnic, so my weekend just opened up, free and clear. I'm only mildly disappointed at missing the picnic, there were some people I wanted to meet face to face, but a free weekend with good weather is a good thing. Miami is tentatively rescheduled for next weekend, but probably will not involve knitting on the beach. Bummer.
I have a line on some strong young men to do my backyard - I met with them today, they're your basic long-haired tattooed "we're in a band so we don't make steady money" boys, also smart and polite and nice, and they know their way around landscaping and have a pickup truck. One actually used to lay sod and they said they will go pick it up for me. I'm thrilled - I gave them my number and told them to call when they were free to come over and look at the job. Maybe my yard and my kitchen can get done around the same time. I'm prepared to turn them loose out there and let them do whatever their skills and artistic muses lead them to do, I am not into landscaping and just want a presentable backyard. Boss was very impressed with the work one of them did as a painter on his house and said he's a really bright, nice kid. If they do the yard and want more work, I will hand them brushes and rollers and point them down the hall. God knows I've got plenty of work to go around.
I'm critter knitting this evening. I hope to send two blankies by the end of next week.
