I Heart My Convection Oven.

Damn that thing is great! I pushed the "Speed Bake" button with trepidation, because I had never used it before, and of course did not locate and read the manual before pushing the button for the first time ever. I just figured "It'll cook faster, I'll just watch it carefully." And it did, and I did, and the turkey breast was perfection. Moist, delicious, just right. The sides were perfect, the meal was totally low stress, and it was nice to have a private dinner with my firstborn offspring. Today he worked the Central Florida Auto Show as Honda Guy. I sent all the leftovers home with him, because he keeps little real food in his fridge, because he doesn't have much time to cook but he will reheat.

Girlchild called to report that her first Thanksgiving Dinner production was a success, the friend who did the bird did it perfectly and she and her friend did excellent sides, so everybody was stuffed and happy and they have lots of leftovers to enjoy. She made my stuffing "recipe" - it's too lame to call it a real recipe - off my hasty instructions and her friends, raised on Stovetop, pronounced it Much Better than Stovetop. She did homemade cranberry sauce and those who did not eat cranberries ate it and liked it. What higher praise can one expect of college students? And had they popped for a pint of oysters for the stuffing they'd have been way more impressed. But she subbed more butter for the missing shellfish (without needing to consult me) and it worked.

I woke up at my usual 5:30, after a very good 8 hours' sleep, and hit my favorite mall by 8:15. I didn't buy that much, I did linger in my favorite stores. I have decided that I want to adapt the Anthropologie decor style to my own life, or at least my bedroom, but on a much cheaper scale. I think this means I need to hit Renningers for accessories and drag out the sewing machine for the rest. The furniture already works, I just need to paint, and redo that landing strip lighting sink area.

On a related decorating note, it's time to tackle re-carpeting the hall and two empty bedrooms, and painting Girlchild's old room. Tomorrow I will visit Home Despot and select something really damn durable and neutral, a Stainmaster special. I think Girlchild's old room will get a coat of Cream in My Coffee, the same color I used in the kitchen. It's just a smidge richer than a cream, but is mostly cream, which is why I said it should have been called A Tablespoon of Coffee in My Cream. I don't want to go too taupe because that room doesn't get that much natural light, but this color will go with absolutely anything and be very flexible, which the current sponged blue and white is NOT. I'm thinking it'll take two coats of CiMC to cover that blue and white, or maybe I should cut to the chase and buy a gallon of heavy primer. Who the hell knew we'd still be living here when it was time to repaint?

After Costco, Target and Publix it was home to tackle the yarn stash. I am not allowed to buy yarn in 2005. I will finish 12 projects before I buy more yarn. I'm serious. I thought that when I went through the stash I'd find a lot of stuff I didn't like anymore and didn't want to use. Uh-uh. I have plenty of nice yarn and I know what to do with it. I did pack up a nice box of stuff for Alderson, but I had plenty left over, earmarked for projects I had forgotten but still want to make.

I'm blaming the Knitblog Effect. That's the thing that starts knit-alongs and trends toward this yarn or that, and it's all really cool and I'm not knocking it at all, but it does tend to create desire that rational consumption can't manage. So now I'm on a "consume the stash" program, and after I complete 12 projects I can buy yarn again. Seriously.

And today was only Friday, and tomorrow is Saturday, and I still have a weekend ahead of me! Wheee!!!!
