98, 99, 100

Shit.

No, this isn't normal for Florida. I hope it isn't going to be the new normal, because I don't think I can deal with this for the rest of my life, but I fear it likely will be.

Delaney came over on Saturday and asked if I'd have the afghan I'm making for her (which isn't started yet) done soon. I told her not to worry, it will be done for our first cool night, sometime around Thanksgiving.

Canada sounds so nice, for so many reasons.

How is Ellie? Awesome. I took her to the vet yesterday for her free checkup. I was so happy that my vet is on the Pet Alliance list of doctors, you can either see their own vets at their facilities or take your new animal to one of the doctors who work with them, and my own beloved veterinary office is one of them, so Ellie got to meet Dr. Maureen, and vice versa. She was pronounced healthy and beautiful and fabulous. Dr. Maureen shook my hand and congratulated me on finding such a wonderful cat.

Ellie saw the weather forecast and has vowed to spend the next two months like this.

  2. How much does she weigh? In some pictures, she looks big, but in others, not so much.

  3. Brenda, she's a bit chubby but not obese. Her intake paperwork at the rescue said she was 14 pounds, but yesterday at the vet she was 12. Her appetite seems to have returned so I'm guessing she'll gain back what she lost while in prison, poor thing. She obviously was somebody's pampered baby, she was never a stray, so rehoming was traumatic for her.
Today I vacuumed and she still hasn't forgiven me - everything is still new and scary, though she's really, really trying to be brave.

  4. Did they tell you what her story was at the shelter? One of my friends does bird rescue, and some of the stories are heartbreaking---people die, they get cancer, etc.

I had neighbors that had two Main Coon cats, and I think they weighed well over 30 pounds apiece. I didn't know what they were, and it scared me to see them in my back yard after dark---I had never seen such huge housecats. They did look like large raccoons. I thought they were going to eat my Yorkie!

Sorry about the heat. We've shifted into the "hot as hell" mode here this week as well. I'm ready for Fall....

  6. Brenda, I don't know her story. She was pulled from the Volusia shelter with no details beyond "year old spayed female". Based on her behavior the vet and I both concluded she's lived with a dog before, and she appears to be as young as reported. Beyond that, nothing. She's very much a house cat and never spent any time as a stray, and is very affectionate. She's on my lap purring as I type.

  7. Caroline: the white belly likes rubs. She rolled onto her back for a belly rub from Delaney five minutes after meeting her.

She's not a pure Maine Coon, she's a mix, but the big hairy snowshoe paws are a giveaway. Her feet are HUGE. If she's not done growing yet and grows into those feet she'll be 16 lbs. I'm hoping she's done growing. ;-)
