All I want for Christmas...

is to turn off the GD AC! It's still several degrees above normal every day, and humid, and often overcast with random rain showers. This is normally the time of year I live for, this is supposed to be the reward for surviving summer! This is supposed to be the time of small electric bills! Where's my cooler, drier air and sunshine? We are being screwed this year.

Of course I wrote that and it suddenly got a wee bit cooler. It's open windows at night weather, at least for a few days. But don't worry, it'll be 80 again by next Saturday.

But I am feeling at least slightly more Christmasy. This Saturday helped. We went to the Magic Kingdom to see Christmas decorations, ride some favorite rides, and...guess who we found there?

This is a historic picture, people! This marks the first time Delaney sat on Santa's lap since she was plopped there as an uncomprehending 2 month old. THIS Santa had Mickey's seal of approval, apparently, so he was cool, and she wasn't freaked out to be in his presence. Her mother's theory is that Delaney wasn't SCARED of Santa, but she heard that "He knows when you've been bad or good," and didn't want to have THAT conversation. She couldn't afford to lawyer up. And don't get me started on that vile little Snitch on the Shelf Elf, making kids feel under surveillance - talk about pressure.

But Santa at Disney is like all things Disney, it's only good and happy, so she trusted this Santa, and that got her over her Santa trust issues. Santa is not a vindictive judge, he's a jolly old elf, and they are now friends. It was a good day.

  1. What is the Christmas carol that has the words, "He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness' sake"? I used to peek out of the window of my bedroom late at night, expecting to see some creepy Santa standing just outside, spying on me.

  2. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town:

He sees you when you're sleeping
    He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

    You better watch out!
    You better not cry
    You better not pout
    I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
    He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

So, crying is BAD, even when you're sad or in pain? And pouting is a facial expression - did you pout but clean your room anyway? Is that being naughty or nice? Do you lose points for not controlling your face? These are the things that worry a bright, sensitive kid.
