But this was not Miss D's fault. She was an absolutely perfect child - seriously! Pleasant, cooperative, funny, just delightful in every way. Miss Insomnia actually announced that she was tired at 8, got ready for bed and was asleep before 9, no fuss, no complaining, no manic running around. She settled down in her sleeping bag in front of "The Incredibles" (one of my personal favorite movies), dropped off to sleep, and slept until 6:30 this morning.
No, the issue was my own comfort. We were supposed to "camp" in the living room on an air mattress. The air mattress hadn't been used in a couple of years and had been stored in a hot garage, and its self-inflating motor wouldn't turn on. Fresh batteries didn't help, I cleaned the connections, etc., but nothing worked. Several tries, nothing worked. Plan B: I made a pallet of blankets on the floor for Miss D and topped with her sleeping bag. I started out beside her, but my back protested, so after she fell asleep I moved to the couch. It was not very comfortable, especially after Sophie abandoned Delaney and squeezed herself in behind my knees, but I still managed to fall asleep at 9:30. I did sleep a bit, but after 2:30 I mostly tossed and turned until I gave up and got up to made coffee at 4:30 a.m. It's almost 1:30 in the afternoon and I need a nap. Sophie is snoring like a small grizzly on the back of her chair. She had a wonderful time with our guest, but she definitely was visibly relieved when her mom came to take her home. Right now the room is filled with her snores. She likes our quiet grownup life.
I need a nap too, but I have to do some meal prep for the week. I try to prepare some stuff for lunch and snacks for the week to make the mornings easier (though the mornings are pretty darn easy), and I'm trying to summon the energy to use all the ingredients I picked up this weekend. Vegetable soup sounds like a winner for lunch at least a couple of times this week. It's still hot as summer here, but the office A/C is chilly. And tomorrow is Monday again. Damn.
