Let's see. There's a lot to it, a lot of processes to master, a lot of new names to learn. But I get it already, and feel confident that I will master the core processes in six months. It will take six weeks just to learn my way around the building.
There's also:
a 20 minute commute vs. an hour
flexible hours - you bill time to projects, but nobody watches your coming and going if work is getting done, because everyone is a grownup
wear jeans whenever you don't feel like dressing up to "business casual", as long as you aren't scheduled for a meeting with a customer
a supply of fancy coffee and Earl Grey tea swoon!

actual systems and procedures to learn, instead of struggle to create - I reviewed an actual process checklist today, and damn, it was so clear and easy and all you have to do is...everything else...but the processes make sense!
All in all, I'm very happy with this move. Yes, this is only day two, but I already feel like I'm in an environment I can relate to, with a job I "get" already. I have the skills, I just have to package the information the way they want it. I think I can do that.

ReplyDeleteOh, and my daughter just accepted a new job. She'd tried the independent contractor life and decided it wasn't compatible with her family life. Next month she's back to the "working grind," with a great daytime schedule and benefits. Our horoscopes were surprisingly accurate.
