This book review has been simmering on the back burner for a couple of weeks, as I've been too busy to do it justice.

I listened to How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big: Kind of the Story of My Lifeas an audiobook, and it's one of the rare times when I want to go back and get the Kindle version so I can read it, highlight it, bookmark it, quote it...it was far, far better than I'd expected on many levels.

It's a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a highly successful cartoonist, who is also an entrepreneur, investor, software developer, writer...he's a busy guy. The energy he puts into his ventures and how he does it is impressive, and it's a glimpse into the mind of a really successful guy who found a niche and made a fortune off it. He makes it clear that he is an unabashed capitalist, not an artiste, and cartooning was something he always wanted to do, so he applied his entrepreneurial talents to it, and now he's stinking rich.

He gives a lot of advice about structuring your life for success, managing your energy level for optimum performance, and getting up again after failure knocks you on your ass, always prefaced with the observation that if you follow it without checking it out further, you are taking the advice of a cartoonist, not an expert, and your results may vary. Disclaimers aside, I totally agreed with most of his advice and found it inspiring. I now want it in written form, so I can bookmark and quote from it at will. Good stuff.

  2. Thanks for not asking how I managed to write a review without mentioning your name. ;-)
