Closing on Thursday.

The mortgage, that is.  Oh shit. Time to get real about planning - it's not just idle daydreaming now; I have to measure and plan and price and evaluate the options. I'm tired just thinking about it. :-)  I need to break out the tape and take some preliminary measurements to Home Depot - not sure I'm getting my cabinets done through them, but they'll give me a fair baseline for pricing. I know in my head what I want to/can spend on the various pieces of the plan, and now it's time to do the math.

I cannot say enough good things about Quicken Loans. They do indeed live up to their image.  This was quite simply the cleanest, fastest, easiest, most painless mortgage in my long history of getting mortgages.  I actually enjoyed the process - they make it fun, with a personalized website and silly little messages like, "Whoo-hoo!" when a step in the process gets completed.  Everyone I talked to along the way was pleasant, professional, thorough, and nice.  I'll use them again, and probably very soon, to refinance the house, too.*

 *Not a paid spokesperson. :-)

So the loan part was easy; now the real work begins.  The planning and budgeting and timing and preparation and living without a kitchen for a couple-three weeks, and on and on.

WTF was I thinking? :-)
