And I have first day of school jitters, like a little kid. I hope they like me and somebody sits with me at lunch! Just kidding. It's a very small office and I'm part of the executive staff, not in a henhouse of paralegals like the last job. And unlike the last job, I'm so close to home, I'll probably run home to give the dogs a midday potty break most days.
This was a highly productive and fun weekend. Yesterday the carpet was revived from disgusting to actually tolerable. Today, Girlmama and Miss D and I went shopping. Girlmama starts her new job on Thursday, and she needed an extra pair of khaki slacks (she wears a uniform of a polo and either black or khaki slacks). She also picked up some workout wear at Old Navy, because she has decided to do a Couch to 5K, with the goal of running a 5k in May. We are both going to get our butts in shape this spring. (I am not doing a Couch to 5K. My knees are shot. I am doing walking and yoga.) She's turning 30 in July, and wants to spend her birthday weekend on the beach in a bikini again. I am turning 55 in June, and want to be a hot grandma. Or at least warmish. That 5 pounds I gained in the last few months is really, really annoying me, and they must go, and take about 15 of their friends with them. Then I'll focus on toning up the things that are far too squishy.
Miss D is at a really delightful age. All ages are delightful, but she is at the point where she has new words every day and is just so happy and excited about the world, it's so much fun to hang out with her. After Old Navy we went to Petco, hoping that there were kitties to visit in the adoption area. She LOVES kitties - of course she does, because she lives with dogs. If she lived with cats, she'd be obsessed with doggies.
The kitty condos were empty, so we showed her ferrets and fish. The very nice store manager took a lizard out of its enclosure so she could touch it. She was fascinated, but shook her head and said a firm, "No." Looking was fine, thanks, she wasn't about to touch it, even after her mommy and I did.
Then it was on to DSW, because Girlmama needed new running shoes. She got a great pair of Nikes on clearance, and they were so light, I was tempted. I'm pretty loyal to Saucony because a 7M always fits. Nikes don't fit me as well, but those were some really cute shoes.
Fortunately I was too busy chasing Miss D to yield to temptation. She loved the store - she danced to the music, ran around (it wasn't crowded so she wasn't in anyone's way) and looked at herself in every mirror and climbed on every one of those little try-on benches in the aisles. She started to take a shoe off a display and I said, "Uh-uh, don't touch!" and she carefully put it back, turned to me and shook her head and said firmly, "No-No!" and gave me a big happy smile. That's right, No-No! God, she's cute.
She startled me when I noticed that her nose was running (yeah, let's hope I dodge this kid crud for once) and I took out a tissue to wipe it - she reached for the tissue and said, "Me do it." I wasn't expecting a full sentence at not quite 17 months. Every time I see her she has more words at her command, and now we are moving on to full sentences.
I'm going to bed early and taking Benadryl to ensure that I will fall asleep. I want to be bright-eyed and energized tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day tomorrow!
