It's a Beautiful Day!

Sunny, low 70s, perfect weather.  Oh, and Barack Obama was solidly re-elected, the progress he made in his first term can continue to grow, and build and heal the country, and I can have health insurance.  There's that.

I didn't sit glued to the TV last night.  True to my word, I watched Netflix and knitted and drank herbal tea.  I did notice I was knitting very, very fast. I did allow myself occasional peeks at Facebook, and my daughter updated me via a couple of phone calls.   I knew enough to feel cautiously optimistic about the outcome when I went to bed a little before 10.  I instructed my daughter not to call me, but to text me when the magic electoral vote # was reached, and fell asleep.

She texted me after 11 - "274!!! Ohio!!! Obama wins!"  I woke up, read it, responded "Whooo!" and went back to sleep.   I woke up at 4:45 and of course had to get online to see the results.

My, that WAS a satisfactory thumping.

Even better were the down-ticket races:  wonderful people like Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth and Alan Grayson won, and  a bunch of  really heinous Tea Party types lost.  We didn't win control of the House, but gained 5 seats in the Senate, and I think that a lot of the extremist right wingers will be controlled/de-fanged by some very smart, level heads coming to Congress in the new term.

In Florida, a bunch of nasty amendments to the state constitution, put forth by the Republicans who run things from Tallahassee, were defeated.  Their attempt to gain control over the judiciary failed.  The attempts to unseat the judges failed.  It was a very good night all around.

Forward.

  2. FL is still officially undecided and "too close to call" for some reason, though 100% of precincts have reported. So let's give the entire state of Ohio a virtual hug - without them and the other swing states, we could very well be sitting here with a repeat of 2000.
