This was somewhat unscheduled, but I was free so I can do it.
My SiL had been scheduled for overtime, and thought his mom could take her for the day. At the time of the schedule, he didn't know his mom's doctor was going to send her in for back surgery. So yeah, asking her to ride herd on Miss Wild Thang less than a week after getting a disk fixed, even if her husband is home too - not a great idea.
But I'm free tomorrow until a condo meeting at 6. This time I'm getting the carseat, because we are NOT going to sit in the house all day. I'm going to haul her around with me to take care of some small bidness I need to get done, and maybe we'll go to the mall with her nifty new stroller and walk around in the A/C until she's tired enough to take a real nap. I shall take her to LUNCH. We will make a day of it. Maybe. We'll see how teethy-crabby she is before I decide how much we will get done, but I want the option of being able to GTFO of the house.
When her mommy was her age, I was already hating enforced SAHM-hood. I SUCKED at it. I called my habit of loading the kids and hitting the road to do things "Roaming the Streets." Time to introduce Miss D to the crazy grandma's need to GET OUT.
I have things to do, and they are all things I can do with a granddaughter in tow, and knock 'em out before naptime, when she will I hope also be knocked out. I'll let her teething and mood and all be our guide, but we will not be home all day. She's not a little baby anymore, and she loves to get out and DO.
Hey, I had a MUCH classier name for it (but the same purpose) - I claimed that I was civilising 'em.
ReplyDeleteTeaching them to behave quietly, and feed neatly in a cafe - grown ups do not rub food in their hair, do they?
Thank goodness for a little car (a 10 yo Fiat 500) because the bus service was woeful, even if the bus driver was a darling. Reg NEVER let a young mother with child and stroller struggle to get on the bus, but it was still awkward until I got the car.
And no carseats in those pre-historic times, but our kidlets did have proper harnesses, tailor mad by their Daddy.
Gae, in Callala Bay
I agree with Gae. It is never too early to start expanding their horizons, and I predict a wonderful girls' day out!
ReplyDeleteCan't be anything but good, what with how bold the young lady already is. Have fun!
