First, the important news: the vet just called with the results of Murphy's blood work. He's doing okay! A couple of things were a bit off, his protein was a bit low, but she chalked that up to chronic intestinal inflammation and said nothing was off enough to be worrisome. We're going to double his pred dose for the next week and taper off from there, and start him on B12 injections, and see how he does on Mom's Home Cooking. I was up at 5 a.m. cooking chicken and rice in my pajamas - I had it started before I made my first cup of coffee - and he (and Sophie) ate some for breakfast. It stayed down, and he just had his second meal half an hour ago. If there is no more vomiting we will all relax. If he does throw up again we'll have to do an ultrasound to see if there's any obstruction forming. Otherwise, it's yet another round of Operation Tweak the Dog. We are not 100% out of the woods, but we are not at the end of the road either. The next week will tell - if the higher dose of pred doesn't put him back on track, I'll worry.
Meanwhile, in Start Up World - I'm doing the technology switch. As I said in my last post, I am being forced back to the PC platform for work, and my son-in-law is buying my dear iMac. This Mac Girl now owns a Windows 7 laptop. I set it up all by my ownself and without once resorting to RTFM, (always my last, most desperate move) so I can't complain. It's on my wireless network and talks to my printer, and I loaded MS Office, got into the MLS and fooled around for a few minutes, downloaded iTunes, set up a few Favorites (after figuring out where the hell IE9 hid them) but damn, yet another learning curve. It had to happen, because apparently everything real estate here happens on a PC platform and this was the most cost effective way to deal with it. So, after 5, or is it 6+? years in a Mac house, I'm doing Windows. I'll deal with it. But it's yet another learning curve - along with opening the MLS and going EEEK! The same stuff is here, but it's all just slightly different! Click here for this and there for that, and I have to master all that at top speed too. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?
I have so much reading to do, so much technology to play with, so much STUFF to get organized and under my belt so I can actually function, but it's all coming together. It always does.
As a fellow pet lover, I worry about Murph along with you. Aging pets are a challenge - every wart is a cancer scare, and my girls white face matches my white hair. But they are the best companions ever, and Murphy has been there for you for a long time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the technology switch - it's definitely not as painful as it used to be, but PC's just lack the fun factor of a Mac.

"He's so smart and aware and you can see he understands. He really is like a little person." He is. He will tell me when it's time to stop trying. It will be obvious. And we aren't there yet. "
ReplyDeleteThere is more to the rest of the Earthlings than meets the eye. And Murphy is exactly as you say. Your news is very good. Whew!
I've never had a Mac, but I understand how great they are. Best wishes on the job front.
