Starving and waiting for Chinese food.

We have a fairly strong family loyalty to a most excellent Chinese restaurant, and I always order takeout from them. I placed an online order this evening and promptly received a confirming email. I did not receive my food - so I called, and a harried young man said, "We didn't get the order. We've had problems with our server." I said, "But I received a confirming email!" He said, (and it still amazes me that I didn't go through the phone and slap him) "That just meant the server got it, we didn't get it. That's how the Internet works."

No, no, it isn't, young grasshopper jackass. A confirming email should go out when the order is received - that's how it works on the rest of the Internet. It also did not escape my senile old lady notice that you found it right away when you LOOKED FOR IT, and read it back to me, and that means you DID receive it. The truth is that nobody checked the incoming online orders for an hour (or more) and my order just sat there, even though the system sent out a confirming email. And don't fucking condescend to me, you twerp - I was on the Internet before you were potty-trained, and probably before your daddy even met your mama.

Dear Favorite Restaurant: If a company is going to offer online ordering it sorta behooves you to use it properly. If it's not working for you shut it down and put an extra person on answering the phone, and everybody will be happy. And fire that twerpy condescending little snot. Thank you.

I'm hungry, and cranky, and tired.

The End.

P.S.: After I called to have that conversation with the boy who answered the phone he knew somebody screwed up and they rushed my order and it was at my door in less than half an hour. I still love them - my son worked for them for years and their food really is the best - loaded with fresh, crisp veggies and not overly salty and never gloppy with sauces. I didn't know that kid who answered and suspect he is a local kid just doing his time in restaurant work - possibly, considering his answer about "how the Internet works" he's in some sort of tech program somewhere. He'll learn, and they shouldn't fire him. He fixed it fast, and probably remembered to check the incoming online orders the rest of the evening. Don't fire him - I'm cranky when tired and hungry.
