I attended my first, and possibly my last, condo association meeting tonight. Good grief, it was a Seinfeld episode without the yelling. Nice enough people, a little silliness here and there, but the entire concept of an "agenda" is unknown, and the management company guy didn't take charge as he should have. Back in Developer World we expected our professional manager to do, you know, professional shit, and help the board full of amateurs.
I'm not troubled, just amused. The rules are not strict and everybody is nice. Maybe too nice, I heard a couple of things that raised my eyebrows and I might have to look into how things are done after I'm here a while. But not yet. I hope not ever.
I promise this will be my last dog show post (for a while, not ever), but I saw a local news story announcing the winner this morning and thought we saw the dog, so I started hunting for photos. Yup, I believe we knew it when we saw him.
My daughter and I were walking among the judging rings and were passing the photo area where the winning dogs get to pose with their ribbons for those official photos. As we were walking by, we both stopped in our tracks to gawk at the most gorgeous jet black Standard Poodle posing with his breed winning ribbon. Neither of us are "poodle people" or pay much attention to them, but this dog had presence - his bearing, grooming, coat, color, everything was just freaking amazing. He was incredibly eye catching. Even two people who really don't give a damn about poodles were stopped in their tracks, so that says something. Today I saw that a Black Standard Poodle called London won Best in Show last night. Not a surprise.
I must be tapped into the Zeitgeist or something.I was just telling somebody that if I were ever someplace where I could have a full-sized dog, it would be a black poodle.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have seen the show.
We didn't see him in the ring! We just wandered by while this gorgeous big black poodle was getting his picture taken, and we both slammed to a stop to gawk. The pic I linked to didn't do him justice. I am now looking forward to the televised show in a couple of months to see him in group and best of show. Next year we aim to score tickets early for Saturday during the day and then the Sunday evening finals.
ReplyDeleteTo explain - there were 17 rings running over 2 days, plus obedience, agility, and dock diving (the funniest and most fun event ever). We saw snippets, but didn't have a particular dog to root for, so we explored. It was just crazy random fun for us, but that poodle did make us both stop in our tracks when we saw him posing with his breed ribbon. He then had to go on to take group and then get into the final, but yeah, I can see why he won.
ReplyDeleteHey Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the dog show posts at all. I like reading whatever you have to say. I grew up with a couple of standard poodles, so I have to confess to being biased in their favor...
Elizabeth
I grew up with miniature poodles but the standards are my favorites. And awww, thanks, I know I am engaging in self-indulgent oversharing most of the time. This "write every day in December" spur of the moment vow has been interesting, and I'm DETERMINED to make it.
ReplyDeleteStandard Poodles are wonderful dogs. I would have two black ones if I could. Or the reds. The reds are jumpers, spring loaded and prance like Thoroughbred jumpers.
ReplyDeleteI love your posts about your house stuff. Don't stop! It's fun. Thank you. :-)
