And of course, I thought I knew how this would work.

So, I went to the leasing office today to pay my September rent and ask about an early out of the lease, thinking I might have to break it. I was pretty damn sure my lease ended mid-December (because (coff coff) that's what it says on the actual document) and I want to be done, gone and back in FL by then. Extremely nice leasing lady looked it up and said my lease ends 11/14. I said I thought it was until December, and she shot me a meaningful look and said, "The Computer Says November!" My son's wedding is Oct. 22. Once again, we are entering MAD SCRAMBLE MOVE RIGHT AFTER A WEDDING! I'm so glad I don't have a third kid who might get married next year, because this is becoming monotonous.

The early September trip may turn out to be the majorly serious, decide where I will live visit, or I may have to squeeze in another. It's easy in the sense that I know EXACTLY where I want to be long term and know the area like the back of my hand. I can find the data in my sleep, review the numbers over morning coffee, and know what I want to do. Then I can decide whether I will lease something for now, if there's nothing I really wanna own as a live now, own as rental later, or just jump in with both feet and freaking buy something to live in long term.

Lest I sound like Donna Frump, Real Estate Refrigerator Magnate here, talking all big bucks real estate investment-y, that is totally not where I am. I'm on a skinny margin, trying to figure out how to position myself for my Golden Years. It's a freaking awesome time to buy in FL, but rents are no cheaper than here in AVL, and even tend to run a bit higher. We are not talking about a million dollar budget here. I'll be working with less than $100K, but there are some really good possibles in that range. I need to do some research on the fiscal health of the community and how that might tilt going forward. And if nothing suits, I can rent for no more than I am spending here. And I can't tell you what a giant "AAAHHHH!" it is to deal with these issues in an area I know inside out.

  2. Wow! Cross country moves are not to be undertaken lightly, but you've done most of the hard work already so this one should be much smoother. Eat your Wheaties and get ready for another whirlwind change!

  3. I'm not stressed, I'm just going with it, feeling like I'm doing the right thing. The only real challenge will be a happy one - I want to find a place to buy, and it has to be something that can close between 11/1 and 11/14, which certainly should be do-able. But it may take a couple of trips to make it so.
