Helllp! I'm drowwwnninnng!

My horoscopes have all been hilariously on target lately: Today's says:

Cancer
By Rick Levine
Your schedule may be less forgiving today and it won't be easy to alter your previously made plans. In fact, you could exhaust yourself by resisting the prevailing currents now. Instead, remain flexible and flow with your existing commitments the best you can. Don't harbor any resentment, even if you wish you could do something else. If you maintain a positive attitude and a healthy sense of humor, the day will be more pleasant for everyone involved.

Good God, what have I gotten myself into? I'm having a ball, I love the people and the business, eventually, when the start-up chaos is done, it will be lovely. But right now there's SO much to do and learn and places to be and people to meet and data to absorb and on and on, it's overwhelming. I made the mistake of looking at my Google calendar the other day, and saw only ONE day between now and the end of the month that isn't full. And that's just the things involving other people or the brokerage, it doesn't include all the things I have to do for myself.

The State of North Carolina, in its infinite wisdom, requires another NINETY HOURS of post-licensing classes before I can get the word "provisional" off my "broker" status. I do not have to take these classes right away, but decided that I'd like to knock them out this summer. As a provisional broker, I have to be supervised by a broker-in-charge. On our first meeting, one of the first things she said to me was, "You'll get rid of that provisional status fast, right?" It just feels silly to be "provisional" when I've been working in various aspects of commercial real estate for the bulk of the last 30 years. So I signed up for the first of the three required post-licensing classes, taught over two very full weekends, this weekend and next. (That seemed less painful than going in the evenings until 10 p.m. two nights a week for more weeks.) By the end of next weekend, I'll have one class down - then I'll give myself a break in June, take another one in July, and the last in August, and be done with it. So, basically, the rest of the summer is going to be insanely busy, but then it should settle down to merely busy.

So that's probably too much detail about why my blog posts are few and far between. I do think of blogging - discussing the plateau I've hit in my weight loss (down about 12 lbs since Christmas, but stalled), the unfinished knitting projects, etc. I dug out some stash linen and started an EZ Pie Are Square shawl, because all that garter stitch is pretty much my speed these days. I rarely start a project without being absolutely sure I have plenty of yarn to complete it, but on this one I'm guesstimating. It's knitting for mindless recreation, more than for a needed finished product. I can't even trust myself to work on the little sweaters for the granddaughter(s) when I'm too tired to focus.

Anyway, if I lapse into long blog silences this summer (I'll try not to) just assume that I'm doing my usual six things at once to get my new career off the ground.

P.S: My Astrology.com horoscope:

Daily Extended for Cancer provided by Astrology.com
Your work has been making a steady progression, and you will finally start to sense all the possibilities. This could take your farther than you ever dreamed! A new person's avid interest in what you're doing is an encouraging sign. Try not to let flattery take all your attention right now, but be openly grateful when someone gives you a word of support. It feels good to be recognized -- and valued -- for who you are. Get used to it. This is merely a taste of what's coming.

Whee!

You go get your "P plates" off with our support. Think about blogging, and we will think about reading the blog, and sooner than you think you will be flying solo.

P-plates - new drivers in Oz have to display special plates to indicate their relative inexperience.

    Take care of yourself,

  2. We don't have that for new drivers here - of course, perhaps there's a fear that in parts of the US it would mark them as easy targets for road rage. ;-)

In this country it marks a lot of them as what we blackly call "Temporary Australians". Some of them are so badly taught, and have such a wrong-headed attitude we can only hope they don't take an innocent life or two with them.

Eldest Grandchild, the Beautiful Brigitte, will get her Learner's Licence in June. After her first test she will advance to the red P-plate (for up to 18 months minimum 12) and after a Hazard Perception Test, she can advance to the green P-plate for up to 30 months (minimum 24).

The problem with our system is you can be taught to drive by ANYONE who has held a full licence for at least 5 years, so some very bad habits are perpetuated.

I know B will be fine, Son and Heir, and Lovely DiL are both steady, sensible drivers. They intend for both children to use professional driver training, mixed with parent supervised practice. And they will learn on cars with manual gearboxes.

Just the thought of a grandchild old enough to learn to drive, has taken quite a bit of adjustment. I am sure she was still crawling just a week or so ago..........

My monthly horoscope from Astrology Zone stressed that I would receive money on May 10th, and it wouldn't be a windfall---it would be money I earned. I don't put allot of faith in astrology, but I had to laugh out loud when I got home that day and found my federal tax refund check in the mail. (!) I hope the classes are at least *interesting*.

  5. OMG Brenda, that's TOO funny! Actually the classes aren't bad; I'm picking up some new information and also making contact with other brokers (sitting in a windowless room for an entire weekend is a remarkable bonding experience).
