And I feel I should check in. We are making up missed snow days in the licensing class, and that of course is just as we get into heavier math-y and more complicated shit, so now after a full day in the classroom, I have a couple more hours of shit to do at home. Any thoughts I had entertained about going to grad school are now abandoned as a fantasy - yeah, I just don't like sitting still this long anymore. And I'm far better off than many in the class, because this ain't my first incredibly-brain-numbing-real-estate-licensing-class rodeo - for me it's an intensive review, not hearing all of this for the first time. It still ain't easy, so I am far from smug about doing well in it. I'm not sure I could do this now, if I didn't have a very strong background already. Sitting in a classroom for 6 hours of intensive instruction a day on a single subject is wearing out our fresh young college graduates.
I have not touched knitting in several days. The class is going very well, but is eating a lot of non-sleeping hours, so the blog is lapsing into even more intermittent updates. I'll be back.
In other news, I have a new grandcat! Girl and Husband work at the same residential school, and they had a little stray cat hanging around on campus for quite a while. When the weather turned cold and ugly, they decided that she needed a safer home. They managed to capture her over the weekend, she was taken to the vet, tested and pronounced healthy, vaccinated and taken home. She's far from feral, and is very social and born to be a lap cat, so she was almost certainly dumped. The vet guessed she's barely a year old, which means she was probably dumped in the orange grove as a big kitten.
The intro to the four-legged household is proceeding pretty well, though Kitty doesn't yet feel safe to come into the house while those very enthusiastic dogs want to greet her. That'll happen - the dogs just want to love on her, but will back off when she hisses, and when she works up her confidence they'll all be fine. And it's really good that they brought her home before the major, ugly line of storms in FL went right over the school. She may be temporarily camped in the garage (but not hiding - she's confident enough to play with toys and explore) but I think she'll adapt. She has access to the house via the cat flap, and she'll do it on her terms, when she feels ready. It's only been about 48 hours and it's already going very well. I'm thinking in two weeks they'll all be used to each other.
And that's the news for Wednesday. Zzzzzzz....
Awww a new cat! That's lovely :)
ReplyDeleteKitty has a new name - Dora! She was found in Mount Dora, FL, and she is definitely an Explorer.
ReplyDeleteA story of a dumped cat with a happy ending-- thank goodness!! I just don't understand how some people think... I'm afraid to ask but is Higgins still around? I am a real softie when it comes to cats. Am very happy to hear how well you are settling into your new home. Good luck with finishing up the real estate course!

Higgins is still around and his eye has healed - he and Dora are hissing at each other without real malice.
