It's a good thing we did Christmas yesterday.

Because today it's snowing like crazy.

We did a Christmas brunch at my house yesterday, and my granddaughter opened her first Christmas present ever, a Little People dollhouse from grandma:

She was a little confused by the concept of opening gifts at first:

But quickly got into the joy of ripping paper. She appreciated the paper a lot; I'm thinking the toys will be fun later.

Then it was on to the inlaws for a delicious potluck of finger foods and handmade candies and desserts. Who knew my son could make amazing wings?

I managed to NOT get a pic of granddaughter in her gorgeous Christmas dress and tights and black velvet shoes, butI've asked my son to fill the gap. I did get her and her daddy in front of the big tree, after she was changed into her Christmas jammies.

(I believe her father's very animated face may be chalked up to the Eggnog White Russians, but in the other pics she had a toy smushed up against her face.):

It was a late night for an early riser like me, and I was awakened at 7 by a Merry Christmas text from Girlchild, who is working today. It was overcast when I woke up, but by 8 the snow had started, and it just keeps on coming:

I had to beg off dinner at the inlaws later, because there is a very good chance I would not be able to make it home. The original forecast of "Eh, maybe an inch..." is now 4-6 inches to start, followed by more tonight and more tomorrow. So I'm glad we Did Christmas yesterday, and today I can stay in and enjoy the sight of the falling snow, and occasionally get the dogs out (with much talking up of the excitement of the experience) to get them used to it.

Otherwise, Sophie has the plan for the day. She is really into "A Christmas Story," though I do not plan to indulge her by watching it over and over.

Well, I've got to say that I'm glad you've got our snow. I didn't really need any more!

  3. We watched it yesterday. No kids and no action; she didn't care for it. She did get into Miracle on 34th Street.

  4. Merry Christmas! I'm glad we're not going anywhere either -it's been a quiet day here, all three of us coughing and sniffing - I'm glad I'm not spending it on an airport floor like some people!

Here is is 79 F, and the cicadas are shrilling themselves to a standstill.

We did the 'most of the family' lunch on Christmas Eve, our daughter and her family are 11 hours driving away. We would normally have driven down either on Christmas Day or Boxing Day - but they will have Quarter Horse people visiting from the USA, so we will postpone this phase of Christmas until mid-January.
Small people are quite flexible about such arrangements, providing there are presents.

    All the best,

  6. Small people are often more flexible than big. It's the big people who feel guilty about begging off dinner in a snowstorm. I feel much better now, because other than my son and FDiL, who got there early, everyone begged off, and they may be snowed in there. I am happy to know I wasn't the only one opting to stay home.

  9. No, Teresa, I don't! I miss a few things - like my kitchen and my bike - and of course people, but I'm a sicko who loves snow, and I have my lovely warm boots and down jacket so I'm eager to get out and walk later!

That storm rolled through Iowa all day Friday---we got about 6" of snow. My family usually does Christmas on Christmas Eve, and had to bump everything back a day. Of course it's all over this morning, when it's time to go to work---no snow day for me! I miss riding my bike, too. It is very sad to see it sitting in the garage, next to the snow shovels and bag of salt. It seems like I haven't been able to ride it since FOREVER.

    Happy New Year---
