These are good days.

I'm surrounded by boxes and juggling a jillion random details, and jotting notes and sending emails and prioritizing, and feeling more energized and happy than I've been in years. Wedding countdown - less than 5 days. Moving van - less than 10. Family trip to Harry Potter in between - 6 days. And tonight Bride and Groom's washing machine decided to celebrate by dying. It's still okay - we'll work around it. Matron of Honor family emergency - it'll work out. It'll all work out, I just feel it will.

Tomorrow, Bride's friends are throwing a party for her at a local chocolatier - I'm tagging along and it will be a lot of fun. Thursday will be a Looong day, because Boy and family will roll in around midnight-1. Friday afternoon is the wedding rehearsal, which is not the Event it is for a big extravaganza wedding. It's just a walk through, so we all understand the drill.

Saturday is down time, with hair and makeup practice for Bride and FDiL, who is a pro who has done many weddings. I'll be playing with my granddaughter.

Sunday is The Wedding. It will be hectic, because we have to drop four dogs at the vet's for overnight boarding early in the afternoon, then haul ass (and dresses, tuxes, makeup, table decor, next day's clothing for some of us, baby gear, etc. etc.) downtown to the venue, get checked in, set up, dressed and ready by 5. Then it's all party time - wedding, reception, everybody sleeps over at one of the other houses at the venue.

On Monday, Boy, FDiL, Granddaughter, Cousin C, Cousin S and Partner J, and Cousin M and his SO C and I will spend the day at Universal to "do Harry Potter". Everybody's really excited about that, and there will be many photos, I'm sure.

Tuesday, the MD cousins will head North, and Boy and family will take Cousin C home - they're driving past her house (seriously, it's 10 minutes off I-95) so they have agreed to slow down enough to let her jump out. :-)

Wednesday/Thursday - last laundry and trash and packing. Internet ends on Thursday the 11th here, so I'll try to throw a few pics here before the Bossy Little Doghouse hits the road.

Friday - moving van. Saturday - last minute clean-up. Then it's flexible - maybe Saturday-Sunday at Cousin C's, maybe just Sunday, depends on how things go from here on. I'd love a relaxing lunch at High Tides if I can fit that into this crazy schedule.

Monday the 15th is my first day in Asheville. Internet should resume late on the 18th, God and Charter willing. Updates in the gaps will be dependent on so many loose ends, I can't even begin to guess.

Whee, this is FUN! Crazy, crazy fun!

And the very best of British Luck to you with that schedule.

And a dead washing machine is 'less worse' than a dead freezer full of food - do not ask for details! It was an UPRIGHT freezer, and the consequences leaked all over the kitchen.

I hope all goes well and offer best wishes to all from the Great Southern Land,

  4. You're doing great! Look how much you've accomplished! You are a veritable one-woman "force to be reckoned with"! Are your dogs nervous yet? Mine always start to freak when I start packing boxes!

One other detail in case you haven't done it already is look into how long NC gives you to get a new drivers license and license plates. California was only 1 week! So be sure to check it out in case it's ridiculous like that.

Can't wait to hear all about the Universal trip and the move!

  5. A WEEK in CA? Jeez, that's insane. What do they do to you in CA if you do it in 11-3/4 days? NC is not that extreme, and I do have it factored into my things to do. I've lived in NC before, and my son and several friends of his have transplanted recently, so I'm fine.

  6. CA hits you with a $250 ticket if you don't do it! And that INCLUDES getting your car inspected! Glad to hear that NC is more reasonable.

    Have fun at the chocolatier!

Changeover of driver's licence and plates? Well, you are 'supposed' to notify your change of address asap, but the complete changeover need not happen until everything is due for renewal.

Some folks living interstate on a relatively 'temporary' basis, as on military postings, never actually bother. I have never heard of anyone being 'copping a bluey' (being ticketed) for it, but then we are only six States and two Territories.

  8. Unless the laws in CA have changed since 2007 when I moved to Salinas for a year, the law said you had one week to get a CA driver's license, apply for your new plates (they gave you a temp sticker) and get your car inspected by the emissions people, and I still have the "book" from the drivers license facility to prove it. Want a fax? I guarantee you I wouldn't have spent the money and taken the huge amt of time required if it hadn't been the law!

Fortunately, Catherine is moving to NC where she doesn't have to worry about such things.
