Dogs in Sweaters

I whipped up these two very basic sweaters from Kureyon leftovers in the stash. Pattern loosely (very loosely in Sophie's case; she's an oddly shaped little critter) based on a basic sweater pattern in Puppy Knits, by Jil Eaton. My versions bear only a vague resemblance to the original, but it helped to have a starting point for sizing purposes. Murphy's sweater is not really right; it was my first attempt for Sophie and is too big for him and too small for her. I also normally knit his with a buttonhole leash hole at the shoulders for his harness. The neck on this is big enough to just reach inside when putting him on the leash. I'm pleased with the way they turned out, especially considering they were stash remnants and therefore free. We have received compliments from the neighbors.

Today was our first real winter day, with highs barely cracking 40 and cold, cold wind. Both dogs were in no hurry to take off their sweaters in the house - here's Sophie watching TV in a nest of TWO down throws, while wearing her handknit sweater.

These dogs do have the life.

They are definitely styling! It's cold up here in DC too, with high winds.

  3. I'm sorry to hear Murphy's so cold - and that you can't do much in dietary modifications to help him.
I wonder why Sophie watches so much tv? very odd.

  4. The most fascinating part of her TV watching, to me, is that she recognizes animals in very unrealistic cartoon form! They don't even have to make animal sounds - she definitely appears to understand that a cartoon of a dog is meant to be a dog, and very consistently recognizes animated animals and watches them intently.

She also loves musicals - so far her favorite was Hairspray. :-)

The doggie sweaters are dear---Sophie looks like "The Princess and the Pea" in the last picture.

  6. Do you remember that dog show, the one by the dogfood company whose name I can't remember, but they had a big silhouette of an Irish setter or something in the middle of the show floor, and that - Rhodesian Ridgeback? was trotting out and saw that big dog on the floor and jumped about ten feet to the left?
    Details are very, very hazy.
